L405 can't be all bad, order books seem to be pretty full despite no discounts available on the hiked price.

Congratulations on your new car, and I wish you every success with it, but there are discounts creeping out of the woodwork...

she thought it was too boxy (she didn't like the look of the Disco 3 much either).

Range Rovers have always been boxy! I still think the L322 looks box fresh... but I get the modernity thing... it just looks a little out of place in the countryside as a result IMO...

I was a bit disappointed with the L322 - finish was brilliant but it was all angular and upright and a bit over fussy.

Each to their own, but I'm still a big fan of the 'architectural' interior style of L322, and the buttons, which some people think of as fussy, remind me of marine watches Smile. Having tried an L405, found accessing things through submenus a bit of a pain in the a Censored e too. Interior quality was a bar higher though.

Why? Because it HAD to be Land Rover and I couldn't bring myself to buy the old model FF when the new one was so much better in my eyes. It is tougher and better off road than I will ever need, it looks modern, has a better finish inside and is faster AND more economical.
œ

I get that from a purely factual point of view L405 is more efficient/better off road etc. But since when was a double R a rational choice? I just think that it has lost its "rangeroverness" in a sense, its looks a little too bulbous and the cabin doesn't feel as airy to me, in spite of the sunroof, due to the thicker aluminium pillars needed for rollover tests. It's also too expensive, as you said you were aiming to spend 50k, and that would have been a reasonable price for this car.

Of course, coming from a Disco I haven't experienced the traditional range rover ambiance. I do get what you mean about the countryside and it being out of kilter but for most l405 owners that probably won't be it's home - not sure it really was with most L322s. My Disco looked tough, was tough and I will miss that - I get the L405 is perhaps a little to elegant. I guess that's the point of the thread. For me it's clearly a step up from the Disco 3 in every way - so easy to be pleased. If I had an L322 I may have greater hesitation in a few areas.

Will be interesting to see if a few years make the L322 truly classic or begin to date it quickly. Geoff

Yeah I guess the market is changing, but at the same time I reiterate that L322 appealed both to people who never ventured off road and to those who did; but those owners I have spoken to now none have liked the L405. Not that it will matter, there's enough of a market there already.

Campaj1 - just taken a look at the link you sent. Dealer website gives little away and a search on Premier Asset gives loads of results from diverse sister (apparently) companies. Email appears to be Netherlands so maybe not a UK car. £5k saving is tempting but nothing in life is free - if sounds too good to be true it probably is. Don't think I would part with £65k to these guys without knowing a lot more. Does anyone on the forum know them? Geoff

Sort of got to the bottom of that offer. The company advertising are actually tax advisors helping to manage tax efficiency. As far as I could tell, you order through a main dealer - they export it for a day then re import it - saving is in VAT, registration taxes etc. Apparently this is a common enough thing and is particularly used in the purchase of yachts. Car would be full UK spec, you would be first registered owner and final settlement for the car would be to your dealer. Your dealer has to know how to do this and be prepared to do this. If it was completely above board and easy to do I guess everyone would do it and dealers would be advertising it widely. I might raise it with my dealer but I wouldn't expect a positive response. Anyone else come across this practice / tried it? Geoff

Only in buying tax-free UK cars for export for those military types serving abroad. Normally comes with some stipulation that you can't re-import/or at least not allowed to sell for 12 months though to stop those soldiers trying to make a fast buck!

Never heard of this being a legit VAT dodge to be able to re-import straight away though - surely you'd have to pay the "import" tax when you brought it back into the UK - as pretty sure that on the import forms it asks which in which country sales tax has been paid for vehicles less than a year old.

Agree, wasn't convinced and they didn't want to tell me too much about how they did it. Don't think it's a flyer but promised to share what I found. Geoff

Clearly sounds totally above board if they "don't really want to go into details over the phone"!!

Perhaps say you're really interested and want to take it to the next stage and see what reaction they have when you write on the application form: Occupation - Police Officer/Lawler/HM Customs inspector etc....!
