Diesel td6 FF, premium price to buy, slow, expensive fuel, crap gearbox, sound like a truck.

4.4 Petrols, lovely sound, cheap to buy, spirited performance, convert to lpg for tdv8 economy and performance. Poor mans tdv8. 03 4.4 V8 petrol / lpg. 1st of many hopefully. I love my Rangie

I have had both a LPG v8 and TD6 in the last 12 months. The lpg car was brill, the downside was filling up every 180-200 miles which sometimes meant twice a day!!. Real world performance isn't that different, the v8 was faster but not by that much,td6 will happily sit at illegal speeds all day long! and if i wanted a race car i wouldnt buy a range rover . Had problems with my V8 gearbox and had to fit a new torque converter (juddered like crazy when warm) but (touch wood) my TD6 gm box has been perfect although it was replaced before i got the car around 40k ago. As for engine noise, i think the td6 sounds brill especially with the little turbo chirrup as you lift off the throttle and is a far smoother engine than the TDV6 i had in my D3

I don't get this talk of the TD6 sounding crap... I think my one sounds fine?! It's quiet, not tractor like at all. It feels smooth enough to me. I don't drive it like a race car, maybe that explains it !
I used to have a 3.5 EFI, that was a great engine.. It pulled up to 90 with no effort and did sound lovely.
The TD6 is what it is. I like it. Previously..

I don't need convincing on one fuel or the other as ive had by backside sat in an SC for the past 2yrs.........

So, please can we have you eagle eyed lot looking for that illusive cheap TD6...

Craig, you live about 20 miles from the highest average value house price area in the country outside London (Cotswolds) and there are plenty of Range Rover types in that neck of the woods.....
