Saab 9-3 Turbo experience anyone

For a 2002 car just before the exterior facelift using a B502 engine i think it is Smile

Story is it smokes a tiny bit on startup but not often but smokes AFTER boost is used but not before or during...

Now a quick look online shows Turbo, Valve stem oil seals or piston rings..

Anyone know or can recommend a Saab indy in the northwest to go to?

I think its a LPT model as well in SE trim Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

If I may as the owner of a an older LPT saab , but having had same issue 10 years ago !!

To avoid Turbo being destroyed in those vehicles , my saab dealer of that time taught me a trick which i have used since in all my turbo cars , the said Saab , but also my wife's smart , and it has worked ever since perfectly .

Never cut the engine of a a Turbo car rapidly . This is to say that when you stop somewhere , you don' t cut the engine , before you have left your motor in idle for some 30 seconds or a minute ; You , unbuckle your seat belts , take your belongings , unplug your GSM etc ... for just the time for the turbo to cool down sufficiently . then , just before you exit , then you kill the motor ( sometimes I even put on my jacket or overcoat outside the car before diving down on the key and killing the engine )
This keeps on lubrication enough the Turbo , and will prolong its life a lot !!!!

and it works , believe me . Very Happy

By the way , my last 3 cars have all had the ignition key between the seats ........ SAAB , SMRT , FFRR ...... Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing NO ????

Always have done Jaybear Smile my 3rd car was an R5 Tomcat turbo, then i had plenty of TD's, then a Coop 20vTurbo and then a TCT Activa... never wanted to waste the money on a turbo timer Smile

Even if the turbo is dead used decent ones or recon kits seem cheap enough and being at the front of the bay it should be an easier job to do Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

We have a 9-5LPT as a loan car and apparently they eat a turbo every 100,000K miles, so depending on the miles yours have done maybe its time to change the turbo unit...

147k its done but have an invoice for a refurb 2 years ago Smile

Some cheap ones on the bay so i think i'll get one of them and if it turns up and there is too much float then i'll send it back Smile

There was a bit of mayo in the filler/dipstick tube but it had been sat for 3 months and had only been started to move it up and down the drive as needed by the last owner.

I think it needs track rod ends as well and an alignment as it feels vague sometimes but is now starting to smoke on boost a bit and then when you come off full bore the rear view is just a cloud Very Happy

There is another one not far from me which is really cheap but has no tax which would be doable for me at its price and then just flog this one on for what i bought it for.

The seats inside this one are superb though! I think it just needs an hour inside to get perfect and then the outside has the usual scuff's on it and a funny rubber peeling on the rear sharkfin antenna which i think is actually a fake thing...

Needs the fuses checking as well as cig socket doesn't work, AC belt is wrong and doesnt go round the compressor, and has sak horrible 'WAKEFEST' sticker on the rear window that needs to come off.
Windows are all dusty as i always find with other peoples cars so that needs a glass polish session,
AC related display has lost some digits on the LCD, the normal ones are working a treat and the temp is right too.

Tyres are Kumho Ecsta's and seem quite well with loads of tread and it spins up in 2nd in the wet which is funny, well to me anyway Very Happy FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Warning some pictures may slow you down :)

Well for one reason or another a con-rod decided it no longer wanted to be chums with piston 4 so went out for a holiday! Queue the engine turning into a washing machine full of stones and almost all power dying and barely able to restart. I thought at the point i couldnt make the damage any worse so it was a laugh to try! Foot to the floor got revs to 2500 before they dropped back down to 1500 and with so little power it was funny! In one last attempt of life from itself while being recovered to a friends it went over 4k but still had not enough power to get up the low loader!

Queue a 15min jolly to friends to drop it off. And that afternoon i ripped the interior out within about 40mins, and set to work on the engine bay and electrics Smile

I now have a great little battery for the rear of the FF when i get it going Smile

Also i got the DIC unit off the of the engine, all the fuses i could get hold of, the last 15litres of petrol(can use in chainsaw) and some jubi clips, and the engine relays.

Also removed the front lights that were decent after a little wash and the decent alloy that was left on it.d give it a good clean, clean the DIC module

Scrappers came this eve and i got £120 for it. So all in the car now stands to have cost me £200. I'll get the wheel cleaned up nicely, get the leather into the conservatory on some carpet and clean it too and get listing the bits up on ebay to recoup the rest.

Annoyingly If i could have let it sit for a few days and got some cheap cruddy steelies for it i could have had the whole set of alloys but as it was it needed to go as the made my friends street look far below its normal par with a stripped out interior, front end and petrol drip Smile

The picture does the panels justice and the interior was just as good bar the un-tidyness of it that i hadn't got round to fully sort but ho hum. Its gone now and partially replaced by a C5 2.2HDi Manual Exclusive.

This is now getting a leather interior put in, £110 including door cards, which is great as they are heated and electric. It has an aftermarket JVC Headunit which is MILES ahead of the Citroen fitment 10years ago but stops it displaying MPG and stuff on the info display but that's no big lose.
It has Cruise, Dual climate, ESC, The loved manual box and a hell of a lot of poke.
The rear pass window motor is duff and it smells a little inside but this weekend my brother and my dad are stripping it out, cleaning it and fitting the leather and doing the door card/window on the rear pass side.
It has the Hydractive 3+ suspension which is not as soft as the RR on really rough stuff(it doesnt have enough travel for the local pot holes) but is so smooth on normal UK roads I'd say its better than the FF/D3/4/RRS rides I've experienced.
The boot is cavernous, more so than you would think looking from the outside! and it has a great feature to lower or increase the rear height from the boot without the engine on, key in the ignition or even the rest of the car being unlocked which is a help for loading things that are quite heavy and is very quick to change height when you want it to.
It may only have 16" alloys and 205/55/16 tyres but it rides very well and has a lot of smooth cornering ability at speed without effort of complaint.

I'll be handing this car over to my dad as he tends to not bother with cars anymore and pays a garage to service them or me and never washes them or cleans them out but runs them for years until I provide another one! So he will get this most likely and i'll get his old c5 to clean up and sell on.

It should help more with my mum in her state of health as getting her in and out with leather seats fitted is easier as she can just slide over onto them and spin round much easier and the heated option will be good when its cold again.
The boot will help my dad with her wheel chair as it has no lip and means it doesnt have to be put in a funny way to fit and can slide straight in once its closed up which only takes a few seconds.
It even came with a boot mat!

The downside is one of the headlamp washer covers is missing,
Rear window drops unless you blutac it (as per above being replaced)
and below 2k its a bit slow to pick up but not too bad and he doesn't ever rush anywhere.
Its 104k on the clock with a decent amount of history but will go in for a service anyway soon
had cambelt done in last few months and aux belt
DPF has been deleted and its internals bashed out
Doesn't have a rubbish french satnav
And finally it may cost him a few pennies more to insure but as his road tax is free he can't complain Smile

And to be honest if he decided not to have it i could double my money as this is what they tend to go for with MUCH higher miles Smile
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Citroen-C5-2-2HD...3f1d2bad0c
And that ones battered looking on the outside as well!

And this is mine Smile
