Checked the side play on the top rear bushes

Hi

Following on from my previous post I have checked the top bushes and found a slight side play.

so I measured it and it is 0.11 inch with 49000mls.

Question, would that be an MOT failure or is that normal wear within tolorance.

Thanks. '88 RR Classic, '90 Classic, '93 Classic, '02 Discovery TD5, '55 Discovery 3, '01 P38 4.6, '06 L322 Vogue TD6, 2012 L322 Vogue TDV8, 2017 L405 Autobiography

that depends on the mot tester, how stringent is he going to be. my self personally i don't like any play as its not suppose to be there but from a testers point of view its probably within limits.

When you say play... What do you mean exactly? You can put a prybar in and thats how far you can move it? When you move it with a bar it should spring back to its original position...

Thanks C-T-C .

The play is the side movement of the joint along the direction of the securing bolt towards the rear of the car. When you release the prybar the joint springs back to it's original position.
As I stated the side movement was 0.11 in on both sides.
As the movement is even on both sides, either, both joints are wearing together, or, it is normal movement of the joint.
Is the joint preloaded, similar to some ball joints? in which case there will be a slight movement. '88 RR Classic, '90 Classic, '93 Classic, '02 Discovery TD5, '55 Discovery 3, '01 P38 4.6, '06 L322 Vogue TD6, 2012 L322 Vogue TDV8, 2017 L405 Autobiography
