LPG on Euro Shuttle

Anybody got any advice on LPG on the Euro shuttle? I'm sure I've taken an LPG car on it before, from memory I just turned off the LPG and ran it on petrol after I got through the barrier, not sure if that's what I was told. Anybody else got any experience of LPG on Euro shuttle?

Bottom line is it's a stupid rule, and they'd never be able to tell! Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

They may not be able to tell, but I know for a fact that the security staff have pictures of what the LPG filler looks like and where it might be located on the car. I've done some work there and seen the pictures on the wall. I'd guess that if they found out they wouldn't let you travel as it's a breach of their rules?

LPG is banned - you will need to declare no LPG when you book - sometimes they also ask at check in.

Once you're in, I would imagine if you got caught, the best possible scenario would be a significant delay getting escorted out.

I'd say it would be best just to get a ferry.

Just a little story on why. I had a GMC Van a few years ago. It ran on LPG (so I laughed my ass of on running cost in the Netherlands thanks to the campervan rules) with a total of 300 liter in tanks. Two 120 tanks and one (the original tank when I bought it, the rest was new) of 65 liter.

The filler hoses were brand new when the two new tanks and new evaporator were installed. One year later I noticed LPG dripping from one of those "new" hoses after filling the tanks (all interconnected).

The leakage continued all the way home and while parked so it was not overfilling. Considering the potential flammability SWMBO insisted on me calling the local council and within 10 minutes our street was blocked off, 1 fire engine, 1 fire department commander van, 2 police cars and 1 police bike. The firemen did their measurements and although the concentration was not in the danger zone, they still recommended to move the GMC to a local abandoned Naval airfield, where it took 4 days for the 60 liter tank to completely vent down.

The non return valve in the filler side had stuck and the "new" hose had an improperly crimped "sock" that caused it to leak. The volume of LPG in a chunnel train is enough to create a massive fireball.

So in short, I totally agree with those safety rules as this could cause a major disaster. Granted the chance of something like this happening is very small but still, HSE after the Lord Cullen Piper Alpha investigation has taught us some valuable lessons that seem to have gone past the people on the Transocean Horizon during the drilling of the Makondo well.

Now stepping of my high horse, you could run the LPG completely empty and run it on petrol and hope they won't notice the LPG system (filler hose underneath ??).

The thing is they let caravans on with LPG tanks as long as they are turned off.

Fair enough they could ask to see an install certificate and yearly service book to ensure its all good but at the end of the day a car could get a pinhole in its petrol fuel tank and that would be that Sad FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Checked with the wife, and we're pretty sure we went on the ferry last time, not the chunnel, it was when boarding the ferry that they said 'Are you running on LPG, I said yes, and they said I had to switch over to petrol for some reason!

Probably take the ferry this time too! Thumbs Up Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

I think the point is KP that all manor of home fabricated kits and home installed deathtraps are out on the european/british roads so a blanket ban is quite understandable for safety reasons...

Caravans usually carry bottles of an industry standard, therefore safe Thumbs Up
