No hook up

Just booked for the British GP and can't get an electric hookup, got o get a generator now, has anyone got a recommendation? The fridge can go on the gas so it's just really running the tv & satellite receiver along with charging the phones & iPads

If it's only for the weekend, surely a decent leisure battery and an inverter would suffice? Charging iPhones and iPads can be done from 12 Volt chargers.

If you are going for a genny, then Honda is the only answer - there are others that are cheaper, but none are as quiet as a Honda.

well its thursday through till monday, i'm not sure a battery would last would it?

Depends how much you intend to use it!

Assume a 110 Amp/Hr battery in the van (fairly standard in larger vans) - that's quite a lot of use before it dies. If it seems to be going down, hook up the car and run the engine for an hour to top it up. Cheaper than spunking £300-400 on a genny for a one off use!

We had a "Non-Honda" Generator and it made so much noise we could not use it. When we eventually found a remote location in Switzerland where the noise was not an issue we found it did not have the power to work with our Campervan.

Therefore generator = Honda

i've heard that you can also get a gas conversion kit for the honda so you dont need to keep topping up the petrol.
i dont mind buying a nice quiet genny as it will always be handy and they dont really lose their value.

You can - but to be honest, they don't use a lot - I doubt there would be a payback on that conversion. Mine is only the 800 watt one, but it's no heavier than a battery and not much noisier! A tank of petrol (a couple of litres off the top of my head) seems to last a long evening OK.

I bought it for caravanning in the wilds, and have used it for that precisely once. Now I find even a week away without hookup doesn't need it.

If you were nearer to me, I'd lend it to you for the weekend.

They are useful for when you find that perfect spot with no Lecky and you want to stay a while without that awful dread that the batteries are going to go dead.....

You feel much better with a generator in the back. Very Happy

all good info, i'm thinking of changing the van soon so i may wait until i have done that before i buy anything now. but i am still tempted to get a genny Smile

Genny can be handy - but I've found in the van, if it's big enough to be really useful, it's too big to want to lug about!
