Intermittent Loud Screech / Squeak when moving.

Help.....

Over the last month or so, there seems to be a loud screech / metal on metal sound comming from the drivers side of the car.

It only seems to start after driving 20 or so miles, but when it does start, it is very loud.

It stops when you brake and goes quieter when you turn left or right (it seems to be loudest when driving straight or slight left / right turns).

LR Dealer has checked and cant see any abnormal wear on the brake pads etc, they have also stripped the rear brakes and cleaned...

Did 120 miles in the car last weekend... silent... then driving home from work the following day... started after 20 miles again... there doesnt seem to be any pattern to it..

Anybody seen this before or any ideas where to look? I have a recording of the sound, is it possible to post it on the forum anywhere?

Help..... it is driving me mad.... Big Cry

Brake dust shield?

I had a similar noise which I was certain it was coming from the rear of the car, it turned out to be the drivers side brake dust shield had rusted through and come loose.

Easy to check them all, and a cheap fix. A good place to start.

Sticky callipers may be another possible cause.

Good luck 03 4.4 V8 petrol / lpg. 1st of many hopefully. I love my Rangie

Worth checking the intercooler hoses for a slight leak. Mine was doing something similar. I thought at first it was when I was turning but after a while I figured that it was throttle related (braking and turning you're off throttle so boost pressure down)!

Noise was from drivers side front. Search Range Rover Screeching on YouTube for a video.

Hope you sort it Smile Lloyd Barnes

It sounds like you need to put more copper grease on the back off the pads and where the pads touch the calipers.
My FFRR made a horrendous squeaking grinding noise, which was more noticeable at lower speeds in town. Touching the brake made it go away. The copper grease cured it at once. I use loads of it when doing the brakes now. Thumbs Up Previously..

Thanks guys, at least I am looking in the right areas... have narrowed it down to the wheels / brakes as dropped the car into neutral when moving slowly, the sound continiued so hopefully ruled out hoses in the engine.

will speak to the dealer again to confirm which brakes they stipped / cleaned and get them to look at the others.
