Advice please - 2011 FFRR or New Disco4

Hi all,

Need some urgent advice as my family/fiancee are no help whatsoever!

I've narrowed down my next purchase to one of the cars below but for a bit of useful background, this car will eventually end up in Africa, so I need to pick the car that will last the longest, involve the least hassle (aside from knowing that I'm buying into LR so this is a bit of a loaded Q) and basically provide more bang for its buck!

Cars:

1. 2011 4.4TDV8 Vogue - 2 years old, 20k miles and apparently in great condition, but otherwise with only standard options

2. Brand new Disco4 XS with many extras

Both are working out to approximately the same price after factoring in insurance, etc.

Would love some suggestions on which one I should really go for, especially from those owners that might have both (have also posted on Disco4.com) and know what it's like to look after each one

Need to put in one order or the other by tomorrow as Disco4 waiting lists are getting quite long!

Thanks all. MY11 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - "African Queen"

Thanks contraband.

I did expect that but I know how useful it could be to have some owners' advice.

That's my issue - my gut feeling likes both equally (but not my bank!)

Will they just be used as normal on road cars or will they be doing a lot of off road stuff …

Power wise you will feel the big difference in the FF 4.4 Tdv8 to the Disco ====================================

"Open Mike Night " sounded like a lot of fun until i found out i was going to an Autopsy

sorry I should've mentioned that.

I used to own a 2010 3.6 Vogue for 2 months (until I found out that the stealer who sold it to me had replaced the windscreen and brake light case with non-OEM faulty ones) and have test driven a 2010 Disco 4 (6 speed).

Generally liked both too, not enough to distinguish one from the other unfortunately. The Adaptive Dynamics of the FFRR were great but don't think they will be able to make much difference on the type of road in Kenya

Joker - normal road car for long (holiday) journeys and mild off road stuff (i.e. national parks or generally non-tarmac roads).

Have an old LC to do the dirty work when I'm worried about damage.

/\ as he says.

Drive both and you will make your mind up immediately.

The Disco is very practical but no where near as good.
The FFRR is the dog b Censored ks.

The Vogue will have loads more extras than a specked up Disco.
You will feel like a Gent driving the FFRR and a Farmer driving the Disco. (nothing wrong with being a farmer though)

Honestly with the issues the D4's and 3's have around engine bottom ends going i would rather take the FF if you want reliability. Also i hope you drive it down there as it would be one of a few to have done the drive Smile

The D4 has the seat advantage and the larger size capacity in the rear but for everyday use the FF is miles ahead in comfort and luxury. Go for the strong FF residuals Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Thanks kingpleb.

I did read about that drive someone did in the L322 - amazing journey and one I hope to replicate in the future.

I dn't think i've come across any threads on those issues on the D4's but it sounds expensive.

On the basis that this car will be for long journeys and holidays, using all 7 seats in the D4 would leave no luggage space (and my LC has seven seats anyway), so think the seat and space advantage only works for everyday use.

I appreciate the point on residuals but I think I'll keep whichever car I buy for it's working life (I don't like getting rid of family...)

Would you say there's any concern to be had over buying a 2 year old/20k mile FFRR or would you consider this almost being in new condition?

I've changed my mind about 100 times this week but I think I'm going to go see the FFRR and if it gives me that vibe, then that's part of the decision made...

Any advice on what to look out for on a 2011 4.4? Were there any recalls/warranty work that should have been done and any things that have gone wrong I should get checked?

I am lucky to have both

totally different cars , luxury cruiser and a work horse

as for engines 3.0 SDV6 in D4 same as the FFRR new model and no issues with those
4.4 TDV8 in 2011 RR is just a great engine.

If i want a car i can take anywhere and leave anywhere the D4 otherwise the RR every other time LOL.

Sorry bet that helps not one bit Smile Far to many gone...

Thanks.

Going to see the FFRR tomorrow. As above, any advice on what to look out for on a 2011 4.4? Were there any recalls/warranty work that should have been done and any things that have gone wrong I should get checked?

Also, is it possible/worth getting a sump guard and underbody protection on a FFRR or are they quite robust against knocks from under?

Check any recalls have been done. Also check the battery has been some if needed as I think they fit agm type now. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

kingplem - sent you a PM earlier (thanks in advance).

i asked them over the phone today and i think the battery has been replaced but need to confirm it's the correct type (agm) and i think they also replaced the bonnet switch as it kept saying it was open. other than that i don't think they have done any warranty work, only the usual service. but will have a detailed look over the entire service history to see if anything stands out.

is it usual for brake pads and discs to be changed after 20k miles or it should be atleast 30k?
