Can anyone recommend a NAS drive ?

I'm using my PC at the mo, to stream / copy to TV and PS3 for viewing, but more often than not, I find I want to watch something and I've not got the PC switched on.

It'd also act as a decent backup for films etc........

I'm imagining a box with a power and network connection, so I can assign an IP address to it and have it always on.

Anyone got any thoughts.......

Dlink 320L work well as do the Seagate 220 blacks good for both remote nas back up and media

Dlink easier for home use and comes with a good set of apps , you can run 4TB with ease

expect to pay about £150 for a 2TB version of the 320L with 1 drive installed Far to many gone...

I run a Western Digital My Book Live 3TB plugged straight into router then just map the drive. Streams seamlesly to my Samsung 8000 smart tv. All computers on the network can store and share stuff.
Best thing about it is with WD2GO (free app) you can view all files on smart phone(iphone or android) or login from any computer anywhere in the world. My son is at Uni and watches all the movies and series I update for him each month. Also a good backup of his uni work.
Got mine in the states - expect to pay in $ what you would in £ here.

You can't beat synology

I used then in installs from homes to business and they are great and cheap. I use mine on holiday to upload photos to  FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I use buffalo NAS

Never had any issues ... iPhone app to get to it easily... Even sends me an email everyday to tell me its working ok Bluetooth Exchange www.bluetoothexchange.co.uk

The synologys will email about anything and everything as a good NAS should do
They cost a little more than the other cheap ones but as the good reviewers show, they are good for home and business and have not let me down ever it just sits hidden away plugged into the sky router and works without complaint and shuts down every night and wakes up as instructed every morning to conserve power. I can stream my iTunes library from it, I can leave it to download a new series for me, record some security camera feeds, take pc and mac backups and have dedicated user areas.

Netgear ReadyNAS had it a couple of years, always been great.
Has a handy on / off schedule timer, allowing me to offset a little bit of my FF carbon footprint....
I have also fitted some low energy bulbs, so in my eyes, I'm doing my bit

Capacity is not relevant as he was asking about a NAS .. which is essentially a box with drive bays, raid capability and network connectivity .... (and a clever little OS). You can put what you like in it! Land Rover Addict

I've yet to come across a SOHO Synology with HDD supplied.

You can chose 5400rpm disk if you want a long life and nice quiet and cool machine for ocassional use or some silly fast 7200/10000rpm or SSD if you have the £££ for super quick stuff  FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
