Scotland 2002 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Epsom Green
Speakers

Just had the Baris update on my BM 54, impressed with the service from Baris but still not particularly impressed with the sound system on my Vogue. There isn't any "Harman Kardon" emblems on any speakers. Does this mean they are a lower spec speaker and so the next upgrade would be a set of speakers?

Anybody got any thoughts on this? 2002 Vogue Epsom Green with Ivory Leather.

I asked the same question last year, but didn't get any replies ;

http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic10416....man+kardon

I am happy with the BM54 Upgrade, its made the system acceptable. Before it was like singing through a blanket...........

I've always been underimpressed with BMW hi-fi of this ere. A mate had a 750i V12 and it was just like our "standard" ones.

A few years later he had an 2001 M5 with the M-Audio package, which was much better, but should have been like that from the start...........

So, I too await any replies.........

Cam Tech Craig did an upgrade from a later car - he mentions it here ;

A mate has a 2003 HSE without the Sat Nav display, he has Harman Kardan badges on his speaker covers and I'm sure it sounds better than one and that's a standard BM 54 as well. 2002 Vogue Epsom Green with Ivory Leather.

According to the brochure, the only upgrade option for the HSE is the Harman Kardon system we have ;

I guess my mates has the upgrade on his HSE but i kind of expected to have the upgraded sound system on my Vogue. I don't think I have Harman Kardon, there isn't any badges on the speakers. 2002 Vogue Epsom Green with Ivory Leather.

When you're tone deaf you don't worry about speaker quality. Smile

Don't always have the badges.

It was same with the Disco 2.........

We have a HK system in our cars.........it's standard on the Vogue.

On our era cars, there was a logic 7 system available later I think.

I have a pdf brochure somewhere......

I have what you have, standard bar the BM54 upgrade from Baris.

Its much more balanced and a bit more powerful, but I'm sure the speakers are the weak link now.

To be fair, all I fancy doing is putting the ones in from the facelifted cars, the ones with the touchscreen nav, they do say Harman Kardon on the grilles, and the hi-fi was quite an upgrade. Not heard one though.

There must be loads about, but I can't seem to find speaker sets for sale...........

You'd have thought that'd be the easiest route, like my original thread on my first post.....

Kind of hoping someone will pipe up with all the info we need.

I know we have an active system, so the crossovers and stuff are in the amp, not the speakers, so just swapping them out for a 3 way unit from Halfrauds isn't gonna work right.........

Changing speakers would further improve the sound quality. At the moment, you have good enough power from the bm54, but crap speakers.

Add an amp and sub, and you have a very good system.

You don't have to go too expensive with speakers, just something with a name like alpine.

Even adding a sub and amp, you would be taking stress off the Oem speakers, by putting volume up on the sub, and decreasing the bass in your tone options. This way the speakers only produce treble, and you have the bass from the sub. Then control how much bass you want by adjusting the bass in the tone options.

Hi Baris

I'm obviously not understanding exactly what I already have. I thought the BM 54 was an amp as well as a radio, is this not the case? and I also thought I had an additional amp, the Power Amp.

Do I need an additional amp to these? 2002 Vogue Epsom Green with Ivory Leather.

If you don't have DSP, then your bm54 is the processor to all the sound in the car. It has 4 channels coming out of it.

If you have DSP, you would have a sub in the boot, that's why I say to add a sub and amp, if you only have a bm54.
