When I lifted the cover and looked at the rubber band conversion I thought I should really have a closer look to see what I had done as I knew someone would ask...Well guess what I never took a closer look so now I will need to go and take a few better pictures and have a good look Big Cry

Right I've just done a nut and bolt strip down to see what I had concocted

The strap is a piece of rubber which came with a set of Ford car mats I had bought for my wife's ex C-Max (piece of sh*t car) a few years ago. The strap was only to hold the mats together for display purposes and I had kept it just in case it would ever be required for a 'bodge it and scarper job'. The cut outs in the strap were there so all I did was hook it onto the original bracket and up over the jack.

I'm sure that a similar set up could be made from an old inner tube

Nice John, so you too used what you had to hand at the time (for me it was cable ties, my apologies for that Rolling Eyes) I also tried a bungie clip but that looked crap Whistle .

Very Happy What a lucky find in my garage... No idea where I picked it up originally, but sure glad I never chuck stuff like this out.

And this is it in place. It is a better fit than the original !

Sorry, just out of curiosity, what are the two straps hanging over the jack that seem to go down into the spare wheel well? I don't have them on my car but can see two possible locating holes for their fitment. They're not to help get the spare wheel out of the well are they? Steve

Ah right, are they an optional accessory then ? ( I've had to take the wheel out a few times over the years and it is pretty akward to remove by just lifting it out, due to the tailgate . I've even also removed everything , shut the tailgate , then reached down and stood the wheel on end , then opened the tailgate again, which is a bit easier). Sorry , don't mean to hijack the thread! Steve
