Front or back

Just bought 4 cooper 255 55 19 4xs tyres but 2 of them have slightly less tread than the other 2 so would you have more tread on the front or the rear? Cheers

Hmmm - rear is the correct answer if they are significantly different - the logic is that for aquaplaning, one set will lose grip before the other and in general, it's safer if that's the rear as most drivers cope with understeer better than oversteer.

However, the ideal is to have all 4 the same.

As the fronts will wear more quickly, you need to rotate to have them wear close to evenly.

So if the difference is slight, then I'd be inclined to stick the best ones on the front & start rotating when they are all about the same.

I rotate mine once a year when I swap from winter to summer & back again, so the difference in tread depth is always slight & the lowest go on the rear.
