Scotland 2005 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Java Black
Newbie with suspension fault

Hi guys,

Firstly wanted to say that I'm a newbie to the RR scene but always wanted a full fat. After my fiancee and I had our little boy, I decided it was time to get rid of all the fast jap stuff (a 500bhp evo) and get a sensible family car for us and our husky.

I finally settled on a 55 plate Java Black Vogue with 65k on the clock, 20" Supercharged wheels (seen them on the evoque and sport) and every toy I think Land Rover could fit to one.

Anyway, onto the suspension issue. After the car has been running for a while I get a "suspension fault" warning on the dash but no associated symptoms. However, on 2 occasions the car has went into a limp home mode saying "suspension fault Max Speed 30mph" and the suspension height selection light have went out. If you simply switch the car off and on again this issue goes away, only once have I then had a "vehicle lifting slowly" message, but this was after about 5 minutes of the limp home mode, so I'm guessing the air suspension was completely empty as I heard it purging the air from the system and the height adjustment still works with no issues.

Is this a compressor fault or simply one of the height sensors has given up the ghost with all the wet weather and me not avoiding puddles no matter how deep?

How much do LR charge for a compressor and the sensors, I'd fit them myself as I'm a tech but was hoping one of the fountains of knowledge on here could help diagnose the fault.

Cheers

Nick

At a rough guess i would say the compressor inside the boot under the spare wheel might be faulty , IIRC i don't think it is to hard a job to replace , see Dan@duckworths the site sponsor for a price on a replacement …

Could be wrong but that was the same fault i had on my old SC a few year back … Thumbs Up

Also welcome to the Madhouse Thumbs Up Thumbs Up ====================================

"Open Mike Night " sounded like a lot of fun until i found out i was going to an Autopsy

Cheers Joker, will message Dan and see what his prices are like. Happy to find out it's in the boot as I was expecting it to be somewhere on the slightly rediculous side. I'll get her into my unit and add that to the full paint correction and wheel refurb I'll be doing on her as no matter how much time someone spends on her, it just doesn't come upto the standards I offer for customers cars. It was "detailed" before I picked her up and it was still slightly Grey from all the swirl marks they simply Supaguarded over.

Nick

I'd recommend reading the fault codes after clearing them first as it could be a ghost in the machine...

Mine started to do the same and then the con red on the compression piston went pear shaped Sad

When you get a new unit would you be interested in flogging yours on at all for a few quid so i can purely have a good nose at it and see if its about to fail the same way mine did?

You may be able to get away with just removing the compression piston and motor, cleaning it all out(it fills with metal dust quite a bit i found!) and then some light emery paper over the piston ring and cylinder itself and a slight touch of some grease in there, high temp grease but not loads just a light light touch, to ensure a good seal Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

My bad I thought it was not for the old ones !!!! The pics ive seen are for the one that 'looks' like an air compressor. One day your life will flash before your eyes......................................make sure yours is worth watching!

The old compressor is much weaker in design compared to the new ones, I dont think many new ones have failed but the worst part is that generally when on full or extended height they run almost all the time for some reason...

And dont worry Johnny we all learn. Made me sad when i realised.. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

You'll be ok as you have the older one but at 2005 they changed over. I'd say if you have touchscreen you will have this compressor in the boot as i think its part of the ford parts overhaul but can't be sure as i know there was some mixing and matching at this age... FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

All in the wheel well on the L322, the P38 had it under the bonet i think. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
