The date is shown when you first put the key in. Where the mileage for service is shown if you press the odometer button the date for fluid change is shown

That's not for the brake fluid though.... That is the Oil Change and Inspection.

This is for the petrol, not sure if it works on the TD6:

Resetting the Oil Service or Service Interval Message.

Ignition key must be “off”.
• Press and hold the trip odometer button in the instrument cluster (left button), and turn the ignition key to the first position (KLR).
• Keep the button pressed for approximately 5 seconds until one of the following words appear in the display: “OIL SERVICE, or “INSPECTION”, with “reset”.
• Release the reset button and press and hold it again until “reset” begins to flash.
• While the display is flashing, press the left button briefly to reset the service interval.
After the display has shown the new interval, the following will appear: “END SIA”.

Why is the date changed every two years then?

Because its the interval for changing brake fluid! As its a BMW range rover it is exactly the same as my previous bmw and my wife's mini

I dont ever recall getting a date for service on there just the mileage to service

Read the manual that came with your car before you start second guessing the info that I give. If you cant even be bothered to do that then don't ask the question in the first place if you already know it all!

I dont know it all hence why i asked the question but i think you'll find it was you who started the patronisation with the exclamation on your first reply.

I have read the manual but it says nothing about it which is why i came here for support

Go and check what date it says on your vehicle and see if it is the same as when your oil change/service is due, i'll guess it prob isnt correct

The RR has two or three levels of service:

Oil Service and Inspection 1 (possibly also inspection 2 although unsure if this is flagged on the dash) I have atatched the service sheets for you.
