Live 12v socket?

I want to give the battery a top-up overnight because the FBH is turning off after a few mins and I suspect it's the battery but can't find a permanently live 12v socket on my MY11, is there one? My MY07 boot socket was always live. Do I have to connect direct to the battery on the MY11 to charge it? MY23 D350 HSE

Not going to say RTFM as im pretty sure it says in there re charging, but a good run out should charge it sufficiently to make the FBH run properly, imho i would always charge directly on the battery, though its not strictly neccessary according to those in the know on here. Are you sure the 12v in the boot isnt permanently live, it is in mine 2008?

I have however just had a similar problem with the FBH shutting down and not heating the cabin, the whole malarky was replaced under warranty, as yours is a 2011 car all of this should be covered under warranty for you in any event. good luck with it as the FBH can be a Censored to diagnose and fix. Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Im with northenmonkejones, i would personally just charge on the battery. If you have a good charger, like a CTEK than you don't have to disconnect the terminals.

It may be some one with a more intimate knowledge of the vehicle wiring that may say its fine, but for just the 30 secs it takes to pop the bonnet i would do that.

Regards, Luke

Not being lazy. I have tested all the 12v sockets I can locate and none of them I can find remain live once it's locked. Just surprised that the MY07 has a useful live 12v socket in the boot but the new improved MY11 doesn't!

The FBH on the MY07 used to work fine but it was a gamble if it would start after use even after fitting a new battery.

The MY11 is still under warranty and has already been back to the dealers for the FBH problem which was supposed to be fixed! It's going back again but I wanted to test it myself beforehand. This morning the FBH switched off after less than 9 mins. I thought that if I charged the battery and it worked correctly then I could point the dealer towards the problem.

I'm doing 100 miles a day currently in 2 journeys so there is no reason the battery isn't fully charged unless the battery or alternator is at fault.

Welcome experienced advice on how to direct the dealer because they don't appear to have a clue how to resolve! MY23 D350 HSE

It's possible the car is shutting down due to low voltage, including shutting off the cigarette sockets that are normally live. Wouldn't surprise me if the later l322's had a low voltage cut off for the normally permanent live sockets. I can imagine some people plugging in a 12v mini fridge and leaving them switched on all day..

First thing to check is the voltage of the battery when the FBH goes off. Thumbs Up

frustratingly on my 2005 , the centre console socket was opposite and always live so i couldn't leave my camera/recorder plugged knowing it would switch off automatically.. ... - .- -.

Thanks Ian. I will leave the FBH diagnosis to LR then. MY23 D350 HSE
