Funny that I like a Desktop for my Desk too despite having 3 High Power Laptops, two Ipads, an Itouch, Blackberry Playbook and BB Torch about the house.....

Hard drives are the bottle neck with older desktop/laptops

Change the hard drive for an solid state drive (SSD) and install windows 7 on it. Even an 8 year old PC can match performance of a new PC with normal tasks like web browsing..

You'll need a new PC if you plan on gaming though Thumbs Up

No gaming required on a pc.
My dell desktop is a dimension 3100 about 7 years old
It's got windows xp
Physical memory 1,024.00 mb
Total visual memory 2.00 gb
Anyway this doesn't mean much to me but all I know my memory is full and the pc won't run iTunes because of it.

I am happy to spend £400 if I know I can store films and iTunes for 2 phones worth of storage.
I'm not wanting it to last forever but Maybe another 6 years.
A friend of mine keeps banging on about 1tb of storage, is that ott ?

500gb should be more than enough. I have 50gb of music and a few 100gb of movies but I never have them all on the pc at any one time. Get a cheap external drive for that and photos as its better in the long run Wink FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I recently bought an Apple Mac Mini - my first Apple - and I've been really pleased with it.

It cost me £500 and I used my existing monitor, mouse & keyboard.

I'd definately recommend it, but Apple is is kind of infectious - I've since bought the Apple keyboard & mouse as they are just beautiful and so nice to use.

It's perfect for iTunes, web browsing, photos & videos Thumbs Up

Buy a 1TB external hard drive and transfer everything from the current desktop to there. Then when you have the new one, you have all the files on the hard drive. After that use it as a sync or back-up drive. That is what I do, I have two drives, a sync and back-up drive plus extra for the movies. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Just put it all onto a Dongle then when you get a new one plug the Dongle in and load it onto your new PC Thumbs Up ====================================
