Sorry to go off topic but before it packed up completely did the blower speed fluctuate, sometimes mine fluctuates when on a bout the 4th light, does it sound like an fsr or a motor problem like yours?

My dad and I used to fix starter motors like that all the time, buy the brushes for 2 or 3 Euro and a bit of work. No clue where to get them in the UK. In Holland we had a few shops that still sold electrical components for prof and hobby. Not sure if those still exist or do exist in the UK.

If you get brushes, make sure you clean the collector (fine emery cloth to clean the collector surface and nail to clean the grooves afterwards). MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

a) Have a search in your yellow pages for somewhere who will rewind alternators or starter motors - they will usually have carbon brushes too (which might require adjusting to size with sandpaper)

b) eBay can be a good source for carbon brushes - but you usually need to know what electric motor they are for or what size they are - again, you can adjust height, width and length down to fit with sandpaper

I would expect a pair of brushes to be a couple of pounds delivered.

in reply to the question about speed isue i think it might have done, worth a try only takes half hour to check have a look at wiki at the power vids head unit change . once top of dash and finnishers are off head unit out theres an acsess hole look into this you will see the motor cover three clips one at top and one each side unclip them and remove cover it will come out with a bit of force ( watch the skin on your fingers) once out the motor is in plane view ,turn on fan switch and useing a screw driver play about with the carbon brushes only takes a little bit of movement ,i got sparking and the fan moved then stopped used some contact clener and hay presto its ok at min. if i can source new brushes im hoping to be able to replace them without doing the full strip down, but looking at the hole the motor unit wont fit through the hole unless i do some minor surgury to the hole ie make it bigger. have hawkeye diagnostics for l322 td6 in the manchester area ,pm for deatalis.

Sometimes mine works fine but just now and agin when on the medium setting, (about 4th light in the blower) it just fluctuates like a pulsing, was hoping it was just the fsr :s let us know how you get on with the motor

Could you possibly buy a p38 motor and use the bushings from that? There are lots of cheap ones on eBay

2nd hand motor is around £60-90 and there is no need to disconnect the AC, the motor can be removed from the matrix box whilst that is still in the car, I have a good motor with one of the fan blades broken in transit if its any good to someone just cover postage. Weve just done another last week so more failing as time goes on, he almost fell over when qouted by the stealer (auto data gives 14 hours) One day your life will flash before your eyes......................................make sure yours is worth watching!
