Why did LR switch from Pirelli to Continentals?

As the title says, I'm curious to find out if anyone knows why Land Rover switched from Pirelli Scorpion Zero M+S to Continental Cross Contact UHP as the standard tyre for their 20" wheels?

Are they better or worse all round and is this a step forwards or backwards? Confused

car manufactures send out tenders to tyre company's and who ever can supply the cheapest price gets the contract...
its big business for the tyre co's cos they get repeat business when the tyres are worn or damaged as most replace with the same make... ... - .- -.

Contis are just shat if you come across anything with mud or snow. anything without tarmac basically.

I had them on some 20's a while ago but hated them when trying to use them in offroad situations they were far from good. The 18" goodyear wranglers i had were far far better and the pirellis are nearly as good for me Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Hmmm, I dont really want this thread to turn into which tyre is best for on or off road use as there is plenty of information on the forum already for that debate. Rolling Eyes BUT I live up a dirt track and although it can hardly be called "off roading" it can be a bit of an issue and we do ocassionally get snow, even down south Smile I was always led to believe that Land Rover use standard specification vehicles for their "Experience" centres including tyres which, whenever I have been, always seem to perform well albeit in a "Manufacturers" controlled environment, therefore I can't see them changing to Conti's if they are really that crap Shocked

Also do we know what the standard 20" tyre will be on the L405........ They seem to have done ok in Morocco Whistle

Pretty sure Contis have been standard on the 20" Supercharged since 2005/6. Not certain about the Vogue SE 20" though.

All post 2005/6 Vogue models 19" where Pirelli Scorpian.

Andy cannot speak for why a car manufacturer chooses to change tyres from one brand to another and agree with Stan on this however I can speak for how Pirellis have always performed for me in fields or on snow. Pirelli were fitted std to 18" on P38s so the relationship with Pirelli goes back a long time. They have never let me down hence why I have just shed our £234 per corner to replace on my 20" 5 spokes on a 2007 L322. You dont know what you are missing until you try it but with the cost of tyres what they are I would stay with what I know ie what was on the car when I got it assuming I was happy or would go with a fellow owners recommendation. Its not necessarily as simple as that was what the manufacturer fitted so should fit these again.

I think, as stated elsewhere, that the off road performance is going to be broadly similar of both tyres as they are used on the Experience vehicles. However, my experience between the two types over 100k+ miles is that the Conti's tend to have a very soft shoulder which can result in the tyre being illegal on the outer edge long before the rest of the tyre is worn out. The Pirellis seem to wear more evenly.

Otherwise its down to purchase price for LR themselves. 2019 D5 HSE Lux SDV6 Indus

Just to throw another question out there,

How come my style 11 20" takeoffs from dan had michelin lattitude diamaris,

Were these ever standard or a user specifiable option? There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
