Radiator cleaner

Does anyone know of a good radiator cleaner that can resolve the clogging issues that some have that ends the life of the gearbox sometimes ?? I wouldn't mind running some through my cooling system. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

I used Holts Radflush a good few years ago. Cleaned out lots or crud from my mates Camel Trophy Disco....... Think it's in 2 parts now (Radflush, not my mates Disco !!)

I've seen a couple of threads mentioning this issue, and wanted to ask, poss a stupid question - does the gearbox use the normal water radiator for cooling - do pipes just run through it ?

I suppose what I'm really asking, is if you have your water radiator replaced, due to a coolant leak, does this fix the gearbox cooling issue with a blocked rad at the same time ?

Thanks 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Yes I think it will. If you look down behind the rad you will see some smaller gauge hoses. These are the ones used for the gearbox cooling section. There is a little rad (trans cooler) at the bottom left. This is a coolant/trans fluid cooler. The new rad should enable the coolant in the smaller hoses to be cooler and help. [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

Many thanks for the pic.

Did have a quick look on RAVE.

I only asked as mine had a new radiator when I got it, but it wasn't a genuine one.........

I shall check pipes tomorrow.

No problem, this is good info for me as well. What happens after the flush, I think it is best to replace all the coolant and put new in ??? MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Most Transmission Specialists have a pressurised machine to properly flush the radiator & Oil Cooler plus pipes etc. Worth getting a quote for a proper flush.

If you would live in 1st world countries yes, but here I wouldn't risk it. Hence my question. Getting coolant is not an issue here, getting flushing done is a different matter. Even getting radiator flush will be hard (might have to bring some back from Europe on the next trip. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Is there a certain Land Rover coolant that should be used for topping up the level, or will a general purpose anti-freeze be ok.

Depends on whats already in it really Smile if its losing so much you need to top it up with coolant and not just a dab of water then its time to look for leaks.

Eugene, I'd go with a known euro flushing agent that you add in. they shouldn't weigh more than 1-2kg for enough to flush the system out, maybe 5kg at worse for 5litres. better to trust something you have used before if you can.

For me its the Forte stuff for that kind of job. The amount of scale build up will be good to see as i can imagine there is a fair bit already as the systems are never flushed and refilled every 3 years as they should be in all honestly. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I will get some in Holland when I am going over there in a few weeks time and send it back in the airfreight. The injector cleaner I can buy here is STP and seems to be the original stuff so I am not worried about that but haven't seen (nor looked for to be honest) radiator flush.

Plenty of coolant for sale here, only the LR stuff is expensive !!!!!! As I understand it, the only difference is that the LR stuff is biodegradeable.

Since my car has had LR/water/green coolant in it already and since then it has been emptied and filled with all green, I plan to flush it and refill it with all green coolant next time. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
