Considering fitting a camera for evidence in the event of accident, etc

Disco group buy for a Blackvue is one possibility but not sure if this is the best or not so interested to hear from anyone who has one or similar

Well muddy i have a BV that i got for £123 all in and no customers fee so far.

Its a cracking bit of kit. Just seeing if the quality is better on full HD at 30fps as i wasnt impressed at 720p as with bad weather couldnt make out number plates of oncoming cars but i guess the CCD would need a major upgrade for that.

For accidents in its field of view it will prove invaluable as i found yesterday when some old tw@ nearly rolled her toyota Yaris back down an inclined junction into the front of my D4 rental!!

I've got 3 Blackvues in 3 different cars & been happy with them.

I got my first one from Amazon, shipped from the UK, with English instructions, then bought 2 more for a lot less on eBay - I paid about the same as kingpleb

I got a "smartwitness" and hardwired it.

It's excellent, and stores your GPS location, speed, acceleration deceleration etc.

It does not record sound (which may be good or bad)

It is only active when engine running (at least the way i've wired it) whereas the blackvue (i think) will start recording if it detects a bump whilst your car is parked.

It cost £160 on ebay, but normally £230.

It's very discrete - tucked in front of rear view mirror on driver's side.

I'm very happy with it. It's like insurance though - hope i'll never need to use it and if so it's been a waste of money.....

I bought them seperately & had no customs issues either time, but you never know

I guess there's a warranty issue, but for £70 saving I'm happy to take the chance

Up to you really -I've no connection to the seller, just sharing my experience

I have now fitted the Blackvue but it may have been too late for one incident at least

Last month a woman reversed into our Mini while I was stationary causing damage to the front bumper - she tried to drive off but couldn't due to her tow bar getting stuck

She got out of the car with a crutch and couldn't apologise enough telling me her insurance would sort everything and she never saw me. I felt sorry for her so turned down the courtesy car when mine went in because I could manage with one car

She is now claiming I drove into her and produced a taxi driver who saw me run into her

I have lost 2 sales on the mini and had to fork out £300 excess. I have been waiting 4 weeks for cctv from the station car park where it happened and if I don't get it I will lose my excess, SWMBO's no claim bonus and face increased premiums next year

I have spoken to the Police who advise it is a civil matter and can not help but when I told him about buying the blackvue he said you need them because everyone lies now
