operation of rear wiper

hi folks.

how long does it take the rear wiper to start spraying water? sometimes i have to hold mine on got a few seconds almost like its priming, then release the stalk before it sprays out? wondering if this is normal or should it be instant like the front washers.

? Shocked MY2010 TDV8 Vogue Ipanema Sand

I wish !!

Mine was all corroded up when I bought the car, had new wiper and arm fitted.

My local independant cleaned out the Non Return valve in the water pipe and it sprayed about 4 inches down from the wiper arm base..........

Took ages for the water to come through, and the pump seemed to work and then stop and then work again even if I held the stalk forward.

That was last December.

Try to keep it clean, but now it doesn't squirt any water at all now.........

Another job...........

There is a thread on here somewhere detailing the stripdown to clean it all out or replace the non return valve, which tends to get blocked.........

When I picked up my car I thought the NRV was shot as I had to hold the stalk down for ages and generally faf with it before the water came out.

Then I read in the manual that one momentary press is enough to trigger a cycle of the pump.

I tried this and voilà - works fine, think what I was doing was holding the stalk expecting a continuous flow of liquid when what I was actually getting was 1 burst then end - if you need more then another momentary press is required.

Mine takes a little while to start spraying.

Seems like the fluid is seeping back into the bottle. Had the wiper arm changed, didnt fix it fully, sprays better when going but still takes a little while to get going first time.

Hope this helps. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

You need a new non return valve, I have had to replace them in the L322s I've had. About £3 from any good motorists shop.

Stewart.

My manual states to hold the lever forward for the required duration of the wash.

Mines a 2003 car though.

Will have to investigate new NRV, but don't fancy removing the inside trim on the upper tailgate to get the spoiler off.....the bodyshop had a right load of hassle fitting it on when I had a new tailgate fitted, as some damage to the fasteners had occurred previously.......... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Getting the trim off is very easy, if a little brutal.

You don't have to remove the spoiler, just grab the top tail gate trim and pull, not down (in the direction of the tail gate) but down (as the tail gate is now up).

If you don't pull it away correctly you may break one or two of the securing tabs. Then check if water is leaking out the bottom of the wiper motor. Its a very common issue, im just about to fix mine on Tuesday. Look at the wiki there is a helpfull bit on repairing it for about 4 pound instead of the 140 for a new wiper motor. You also cant miss the little inline valve, its a good idea to change that too.

If you are having issues with the rear wash my money is with the motor seal leaking, or more likely the valve. But if it is only the valve its only a matter of time before the motor seal fails.

Hope that helps a little. Its a poor design but its a good chance to save some money.

Oops, I feel a little silly now. Mjdronfield posted has pretty much said all the above.

Same problem I had the other week. Got a new NRV from dan. The price should be in his section, less than £5. Instant water now. Doodle to change. Thumbs Up [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

Sounds like the L322 is a bit like its owners.

Laughing

Let's hope as it gets older it doesn't start to squirt whenever it feels like it!

RAVE says to remove the inner trim to unplug a connection and then remove the spoiler.

Will have to have another look at the how to threads..... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8
