Car dead after IIdTool Mod? [SOLVED -problem, flat battery]

Hi all, I hope someone can help. Just got home from work and after changeing oil and filters on sunday decided to reset service interval via IId Tool. While doing this I thought I would also set the nav to be able to change while moving and reset the numerous faults it always finds. It told me that it would load changes to car and that the screen would go blank for 30 seconds. It then said checking voltage, switched off radio and like it said it went blank. Then all came back on again but with suspension fault, 50km/h max. It also said to continue press the resume key I think as this was obscured by the 50km/h max sign. Anyway I pressed the resume as directed then disconnected the iid tool and removed the key. I immediately tried restarting the car but on inserting the key the seats went to a funny position as did the steering wheel, the sat nav stayed dark and no lights on anywhere else and the car wont start ie the starter doesnt even spin. To add insult to injury the IID tool wont know connect even though the blue LED is flashing.
I am hoping by messing about and having radio on my battery is finally suffering though head lights and central locking work fine so am now waiting on one of receptionists dropping off charger from work but if that doesnt work what next????

do not worry it happened to me .... you have to zero the battery .... you should use iid tool with the engine running, not to steal too much current to the battery!

As playing with diagnostics systems takes a bit of time, the battery gets drained. When I have to do something with the engine off, I switch off all power consumers as much as possible (fan, lights, radio etc.)

For longer procedures it is advisable (Blackbox Solutions, makers of the Faultmate) specifically give instructions to put a proper battery charger on.

How "old" is your battery ?? Was it cold outside ?? FFRRs are extremely sensitive (as most electronics run cars these days) to low voltage and if you read around the forum you will see plenty stories of the issues like yours that are caused by low voltage. It may be that there is enough voltage in the battery but due to the low voltage during the writing, something may have gone wrong.

Try charging the battery fully and then start and hook up the IID. PM SteveMFr as well, he will probably be able to give you a lot more support Smile MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Thanks guys. Mid charge and indeed it was way into the red. The batterys never been changed since I had the car for a year so am hoping thats the issue. If it does start I will test the alternator output too but maybe time for a bigger battery as dont want this to happen in the middle of nowhere! And it typically happens when I park 100 yards up the street so have two extension cables along to the car right now.
Will see what happens once into the green though at this right I might get battery out of the car and charge it in here.

Hi Tom, glad that seems to be the problem. Look around the forum for tips on batteries, go for BIG capacity, as big as will fit in there. FFRRs are very power hungry. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Well after hanging around for an hour or so with charger in street I gave up, removed battery and its now charging in my hall. Bonnet to service position and battery out in pi**ing down rain and with only head torch. Pain in the butt car. Nothings straightforward.
had to change the horn for MOT last week as positioned where it is with going through deep water both horns were full of water and inoperable. Fabulous design!

Yeah that reminds me of when I still lived in the low, rainy country Smile

Bit of a shlep re. the horn. Never realized they were so awkwardly placed, mine are still working, need them on a daily basis. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

I guess I never used mine in a year!

Please please please let this charge work!!! I have work to do and last thing I need is being carless. I guess I worry that the IID Tool stuff being half way through when i stopped and that it doesnt seem to want to reconnect is worrying me but only time will tell when I reattach the battery. Hope it stops raining.

When the car is up and running, check the charging voltage as well. Maybe your alternator is not doing its work too well either. Hope this will do the trick but suggest that if it does still get a new battery asap. Normally once they have been drained too much they are really bad at holding charge. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Hi Tom,
Just got your PM. Obviously it's difficult to say anything w/o battery power, but don't get too worried too soon. Christian and Patrick have been notified and should be along shortly. I am going to bed - alarm goes off in 6 hrs Embarassed

We'll get this straightened out one way or anther tomorrow.

Well thats battery charged and no different. Checked fuses and all fine.
Pretty annoying. Why did I decide to do this tonight with full day of visits and calls tomorrow?!
Bloody car.

Nope. battery back in car after 3 hour 10A charge put it straight back to 100%. Full charge remained after checking again. Am pretty much 100% its not battery after all. Lights fine, windows up and down fine, fans fine.

Have re-paired key to car and immediately seat went into brand new ridiculous position and hazards came on.

Can still turn key and steering lock comes off but doesnt even engage starter solenoid. And still nothing on satnav screen. Everything else works fine. So its a very expensive fan at the moment with nice interior lighting. Not ideal.

I only have one key transponder so cant try another key. But this one seems to do everything bar start the bloody thing. Have tried changing gears back and forth between tries too.

Very odd that ID Tool wont connect to allow resetting to previous settings in case something has gone wrong.

I remember something similar to this happening to DanUK when he got the rovercom tool, it was down to a corrupt BCM, I think it was a result of programming while the battery was low, sorry don't help you get the car going but its an idea V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

But would that stop the ID Tool connecting?
