calm down gents , i didnt want to start an argument it was just a thought, and i am sure the info is easily available but it must be remembered people are looking at their sat nav screens ,ipod links ,mpg screen and radio screens all the time as most modern vehicles have a monitor up front for one reason or another, but what i do see every day is people driving and looking down at their phone sending and typing text messages i have even seen wagon drivers doing the same which i think is far more dangerous than the odd glance at a tv/satnav screen
and yes we all need to be responsible when behind the wheel but i do think mobile phones are a far bigger problem  1990 3.5 v8 defender

Can't wait for fully automated cars so I watch TV while driving. Oh no, there is soooooooooo much crap on TV that I prefer to switch the TV off and drive myself. Wonder if that is more dangerous than driving fully automatic........

Anyway, I see no problem at all with people enabling it and giving other people help.

I have a big problem with stupid people doing all kinds of stuff while they are driving, putting on make up using the rear view mirror (no kidding I have seen it with my own eyes on a US highway years ago), people reading a book/newspaper (on their lap or on the steering wheel, again seen with own eyes), texting/emailing with their phones (see that at least once a month here but have also seen it in Holland), using the phone handheld (see that almost daily here but also in Holland), doing some stuff on the nav(?) screen, taxi driver playing with his screen (probably doing his "admin" on a Dutch highway, we asked him to stop which he did without any "issues"), do I need to go on.

I won't have TV on the move or DVD on the move enabled because I don't need it. I have used the passenger for changing stuff on the nav system on various occasions and if I need to change anything, I will pull over and stop. I have had too many instances where I look away for a second (not related to any of the above, just looking at road signs etc.) and have to hit the brakes because something in front of me has changed in the flow of traffic.

I just hope that everyone on here is smart enough to drive safely for themselves and everyone around them. Just think of the poor loved one that you run over as being yours run over by someone else. Just thinking of one of my girls (or wife for that matter) being hurt by someone doing something stupid makes me want to be the safest driver in the world. When I see others on the road, especially kids, I keep thinking, what if that was my kid/loved one, what would be the safest way of passing them/letting them cross etc. Only by that way of thinking you can become a very safe driver.

In short, enable/install everything you like, just use it under the safest possible circumstances. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Just try it once, you won't bother again. Having just enabled TV in Motion with navcoder we went to a football match in town. Traffic was abysmal on the way home, so to entertain/show off to the family I switched the TV on. Even at stop start 5 mph, the signal dropped in and out, I spent more time trying to find a working channel (even more distracting!). Eventually switched it off and went back to the radio

Now then, if you have a car pc installed that can play videos.............

TBH, even with all the ICE (video front and rear, audio, digi TV) I pumped into my FFRR over the last year, 99.9% of the time I just listen to the radio. It's only the long trips with family on board that I might just put a video on, I'll have seen it anyway so don't need to look. I find my kids prefer to look out the window and use their imagination listening to the radio, SWMBO always drops off like a baby in the car (fortunately she manages to stay awake when she is driving!!)

I can't control the PC from the bord monitor unless I have TV in Motion enabled. .

Had tv/dvd in my old P38 and spent many an hour sat in traffic watching it. Once managed to watch the entire film of the cannonball run crawling at 5 mph on the M1 carpark . But the position it was in the p38 wasnt as "in your face" as the FFRR so was a bit less of a distraction when driving

I have used the DVD player to listen to stuff like Big Bang theory (without image of course as mine does not have the front screen working at all (yet )). Love it as it is million times better than radio any day of the year !! Must be a bit disturbing for other road users, looking at me bursting into laughter for no apparent reason !!! MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

I can only really see one use for getting tv working again in my RR and that for when I am sat on the m6 car park on a Friday afternoon

Dual view is a bit cool though but it's also quite difficult to steer whilst leaning across to the passenger side Sorry am I not taking the subject seriously enough

However, a colleague of mine recently saw an artic driving past him with the driver watching a film on his iPad neatly placed on his dash now that is irresponsible!!!

Watching movies, preparing notes for meetings, lighting up, texting, phone calls, warming up soup it all happens on our roads, it never appears to get picked up by the police, but if I dare do it then I know I'd getting nicked, so avoid temptation..

109.—(1) No person shall drive, or cause or permit to be driven, a motor vehicle on a road, if the driver is in such a position as to be able to see, whether directly or by reflection, a television receiving apparatus or other cinematographic apparatus used to display anything other than information—
(a)
about the state of the vehicle or its equipment;
(b)
about the location of the vehicle and the road on which it is located;
(c)
to assist the driver to see the road adjacent to the vehicle; or
(d)
to assist the driver to reach his destination.
(2) In this regulation “television receiving apparatus” means any cathode ray tube carried on a vehicle and on which there can be displayed an image derived from a television broadcast, a recording or a camera or computer.

Regs need updating (Reg 109 is currently still from 1986!)
