I wondered of any of you had any direct experience / comparisons between 19 inch and 20 inch wheels and the ride quality variances?

I'm on 19's at the moment, and due to the amount of distance i cover (mainly A1 / M25) I don't want to sod up the ride quality I get from them. I don't do any off roading at all, so it's just ride and tyre noise concerns.

But I do like the look of some 20's I've seen on various forum members pics ...

I use 19" in the Winter and 20" in the Summer.

I can't say I notice any diifference in ride quality.

20" are definitely more prone to kerbing, although I think they suit the car a little better.

i dont think you'll notice much when rolling at 70mph but at lower speeds the 19'' would be more comfortable unless you live in an area with nice perfect roads then the 20'' will ok.... ... - .- -.

I went from 19's to 20's earlier this year and noticed no difference, other than the steering being a trifle sharper. Si. <This is my name.

Interesting - I went from 20" with Pirelli Scorpions to 19" on Toyo and think that the ride is much softer (and the steering less sharp).

However, it's sounding like the difference in ride could be as much down to the make of tyre as the difference in wheel diameter ...

I have a RRS and gone from 20" contis to 20" pirelli scorpions and seen a massive improvement in ride comfort

I think I'll be looking for a set of 20's in the New Year. No point in arsing them up over the winter time, unless a cheap set comes up.

Think I'll be looking for a set of the LR V style spoked alloys rather than anything too WAG-y.

I've tried the full range of 18-19-20 sizes and think the below is an accurate list for their faults.

18 - best ride but sidewall flex is high during cornering
19 - best tradeoff between cornering ability and comfor
20 - only for those who need to go round corners faster than others

These were tested at towing pressures as well so lest not forget that tyre pressure plays a huge part in this comparison you ask for as running at slightly lower pressures on the bigger rims may help you out and not affect tyre wear too much. The best way to get the right pressures is the chalk test but is not easily done at this time of year  FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

There is a change in ride between 19" and 20", but also depends on which tyre is fitted. Andy....

I have just put 19's on with Pirelli Scorpion tyres for the winter having removed 22 overfinch with toyo proxis on. To be honest i think an awful lot is made on here over difference in ride quality. I can not tell a massive difference. Yes it is a bit softer and yes it soaks up bumps a little better but the ride before i switched was absolutely fine. I would qualify this by saying i have had sports cars for the last 10 years so my tolerance levels may be higher than some as what i now consider to be extreme comfort on 22's may not be someone elses idea. As for difference between 19 and 20 can it really be that huge!?!?

So i've stayed with the original 19" and saved some money

If you've got standard 19" Vogue alloys I might be persuaded to do a swap for the standard 20" Vogue SE alloys.

I run S/C alloys for summer but want a set of 19's for AT/Winter, mainly due to tyre options in 19". PM if interested.
