Paris Motor Show

Hello all

Land Rover have built a Bentley - although the new car looks a bit like the old one, it has a completely different feel and is definately posher. LR seems to have pushed it so much more up market, the Disco seems to be more of a sensible choice in comparison.

Saw it at the motor show yesterday - 2 Autobiography's to play with and a vogue on some rocks surrounded by water!

Initial impressions are very good, although it looks lower when you stand at the front of the car and the bonnet looks huge. The tailgate opens and closes with the touch of a button, good job that they had the cars plugged in, it got a lot of use.

The leather was incredibly soft and supple and the seats could be moved to any position to get comfortable. Front leg room is about the same as the current model.

The roof lining has a felt/suede finish which is very posh and as this model had the £4k stereo fitted, it even had speakers in the roof above the driver and passenger. I suppose that being surrounded by 29 speakers means that you do not have to turn it up so loudly to get a high quality sound. The dash is very neat with touch sensitive buttons and large glove boxes. Fortunately the fridge in the armrest is capable of taking water bottles rather than just a can of drink in the old one. It feels much wider than the current model too, as it's so low, you can get away ŵithout side steps.

My visit has convinced me to have one, but i definately need to drive one before committing to a purchase, don't want the 3.0 only to spend the rest of my ownership wishing I had gone for the 4.4. Also, the fully equipped Autoniography comes in just shy of £100k and I need think about this a bit longer before signing up. I really want the panoramic roof and better wheels, with at least the 835w stereo so a 4.4 Vogue with extras comes in at £85k, so for a bit more you could go the whole hog.

Its a nice dilemma t have, but I still love my current Vogue, so not in a rush.

^^^Regarding overall feel and finish progression.

Now, £100 for a Rangie is steep.

Then again, how do you compare the L405 to the (yet non existent) competition regarding price range?

Interesting to see what Bentley, Lambo and the lot are going to come with. l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

Don't hold out for sitting waiting for anybody and being able to listen to the radio / watching TV for any longer than 10 minutes..................... hopefully by launch time LR will have sorted out the "smart" (read dim!) battery monitor that Evoque gets that will not let the car remain static with the engine stopped and the audio on for 10 minutes before it shuts it down to conserve the battery - 2012MY L322 problems like not daring to leave a door open for any length of time are also a problem with Evoque so hopefully your chauffeurs will not be great Radio and TV fans while they are waiting to meet you. Maybe the panoramic roof should be replaced by a bank of Solar PV cells. 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

Audi A8 has solar cells built in the glass sunroof to power electric fans to cool the interior automatically when parked so I guess the same system could be used to releave the batteries when using electrics with the engine turned off.
