Service quotes

Looking to get my 2007 VSE booked in for it's 5th year service.

Now having been prepared for an overpriced quote to begin with I wasn't prepared to recieve such varying quotes and some almost extortionate!

Varying from £397 to £547. It would be reasonable for a full service but for just an oil change?!

Any others prepared to state a figure they managed to negotiate from their dealer?

I paid £400 last year for a full service and I've just had a quote for £175 for an oil change only at Stratstone. I will be doing my own service this year.

If you do a search you will find more info as this has been covered a few times Thumbs Up

Quoted £450 by Harwoods for an Inspection 1 on my 2006 SC last week. Have found a localish indie that looks promising, waiting for a quote once he's back from hol's. 2006 Supercharged

Got my 3.0 td on a service plan at Stratstone , costs me @£186 per service for next 3 services (next one is the big one which is normally £550 on it's own). It's a thing they do for older RRs, although got a quote for a 1yr old RR and that saves you quite a bit aswell. Worth looking into as cancellation fee is £20 (you pay the scheme monthly on dd) if you sell your car and you either get a refund on what you've overpaid at that time or pay what you still owe for any services you have had but its all at whatever the discounted service rate was so you can't lose even if you cancel part way. Steve

Local LR indie has quoted £289 inclusive of genuine LR parts labour and VAT for Inspection 1. Booked in for a couple weeks weeks time.

The saving over the stealer price (£450) will go towards a new radiator as i've sprung a leak :-( 2006 Supercharged

£250 from the local Landrover independent.

They did a cracking job when mine starting playing tunes from its intercooler hoses. Also seemed very honest which feels a rarity nowadays. Found an oil leak, "oh we just tightened some bolts, no charge for sorting that one!"

http://www.mcdonaldlandrover.co.uk/mainten.../l322.html

My only worry I guess is resale value, as I'll be selling every two years (I do too many miles to keep for long) and this would be the first non LR service stamp even though it will say "MacDonalds Landrover"?! Confused Lloyd Barnes

^^^^^ I'm of the opinion that if you've got invoices to demonstrate you've proactively maintained the car it won't effect resale. Obviously full LR dealer service history is great, but if all the invoices are from the same indie during some one's ownership, and the relevant maintenance services had been done on time, that demonstrates the indie was worthy of repeat business and the owner's not skimped on it. I'd be concerned if every invoice was from someone different and/or servicing was always late. 2006 Supercharged

In the end booked in with local LR dealer, £340. Still alot more than I wanted to pay for just an oil service however if any issues are picked up it helps to maintain the extended warranty. Plus the anti corrosion warranty would be void if going to an indie.

I agree with McDonalds, they are close to me and I always bought my spares etc for my old Discovery from there. They are friendly and seem to know their onions.

I will take my TD6 there when I am due a service. No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

I believe a good indie is far superior to a main dealer - they have a vested interest in customer service and reputation. It wouldn't bother me in the service schedule.

Indeed, with changes to the law a few years ago, anybody can service your motor, and as long as the respective schedule was followed, then manufacturers are obliged to honour warranty claims etc etc.

The big difference comes should you wish to trade-in, as dealers (in my experience) will look more favourably/offer better money on one with a full main dealer service history, simply because it is easier for them. Of course, the difference between main dealer service costs and the trade-in price is where you have to start asking yourself if it's worth it...

For that reason alone I'd stay within the dealer network, at least until the warranty is up.

Current supplying dealer price-matches other dealer service quotes (I found over 50% difference between the highest and lowest), so the first annual service was £160 cheaper than their original price.

If you don't mind getting your hands dirty, why not do the service yourself? Parts and oil are less than $160 AU (just over 100 quid) and it only takes a couple of hours to do the filters, oil and go over it from end to end to check everything, and tighten things up, and do a wheel rotation. They are pretty easy to work on. Smile

Just a thought...

Cheers - Gav
