That's the best it will be without the sound being amplified between the iPod and Aux in.

Is it pluvgged into the headphone socket or the Apple connecter ?

Volume is low if you use the headphone out socket (3.5mm), get a cable with the standard Apple docking connector cable and it works fine, with much increased volume:

As long as you don't need to use it with the iPhone 4 or later, I'd say that's got to be the way to go - it's all done for you - good find

I've got a 4S and it works with one of them splitter cables - charges and sound is fine.

Just purchased a bluetooth dongly thing which plugs into the rear aux.

Does the bluetooth dongle thing stop it from tethering the phone? I can't say I've had any issues with a normal 3.5mm jack to jack cable :/
