Write off values and Accident stories...

Ok after Sunday's little cuddle with a jag s type I was asked by the accident management company if the car could possibly e a write off as I listed all the parts and work that it would likely need.
I did of course say no but am since wondering if the high costs could push it over 50% of the cars market value.
It's a 2005 05 facelift td6 with 142k on the clock and whilst not mint before the crash was in Dam good nick.

I've said if its classed as a write off the car is not to go anywhere as I will be retaining the salvage.

From ones I've seen on eBay and the like with damage theydo sell for about 5-6k so wondering if this is the right kind of ballpark figure that would be part of the insurances offer or would it be less??
Basically the parts list is,
Drivers door and moulding an possible window mechanism,
Rear drivers door lower moulding if not door as well,
Front lower wing
Front and rear alloy
Front and rear tyre
Rear bumper realigned
Front and rear mudflaps
Spraying up of the whole side and blending into front an rear
Lots of labour for the above.

Now roughly I'm thinking about £3-4k as I'll be demanding genuine lr parts( taking it to one of their body shops anyway!)

I've put too much work into her to let her go but the bit that's worrying me is that the drivers door is bent outward at the top so am wondering of the body has taken a hit so maybe she needs to be checked on a jig??

Anyone got experience with being side swiped at all??

Thankfully no one was hurt and no airbags went off as I know they can write the car off alone ;( FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

This has become more pertinent now as the Sill has been deemed damaged after looking under the plastic sill cover its well bent so a new sill and the work that is involved in that as well.

Reckon on about £5-6k for repair so repair centre say it may be classed as a write off straight away due to its milage and age... FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I didn't see the orignial post - so may be talking rubbish (as usual). But if you are claiming off someone else and therefore, their insurance is paying, they have no right to write off your car. Explain, you want putting back into the same position that you were in before their insured damaged your car. That means repairs. Usually they will only push to write it off if the reapirs come to more than the value of the vehicle. If they can save 5p by repairing it, they are required to do so - but take into account the cost of the hire vehicle as part of that. And insurance companies seem to get fleeced on hire costs...

Another note of warning , be very aware of claims management companies their main function is to make huge amounts from the over inflated car hire agreements they force the other parties insurance in to and then stalling the case to maintain that revenue stream . The other parties insurance company won't look kindly on a rebuild if they just spent £8,000 on your car hire. 2008 MY Supercharged

Cheers simes and axle.

I've gone with such a company as I was not tolerating an insignia or note as suitable hire cars. Yes it's snobbish but I don't work hard and look after my FFRR to have to drive washing machines with wheels!!

To be honest if it is a right off I only care about getting a fair and market value for it and keeping the salvage as using 2nd hand parts I could repair it for under £1k I reckon and leave the sill.

A note to landrover, the new MY12 D4 is very good!
BUT a few niggles...
Why does it really need an 8 speed box!? 6/7 is more than adequate.
The infotainment system is pretty decent, specially the iPhone sensible option of just a USB connector!! But the speed of it is Censored . Seriously wtfnis powering it in this day and age to e so bloody slow!!! An the nav, why does it have to be always 3d?? 2d is just as good if there is an option!! The dot matrix display while nav is on is good but again really needs refining.
Dab?!? Shocking that pressing auto tune wouldn't pre populate the presets but the screen layout is a mess as completely pointless. Seriously I can and would design a better system if you gave me the chance.
I just hope MY12 FFRR aren't the same or anywhere near as slow!!

However I did have 65mpg on the return trip for the motorway on the at 60mph steady but it really doesn't need 8gears to achieve this!! FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Cheers mick Smile been through this before I'm afraid.

And yes I don't really wonder why they rob us so much but I gave direct line ample chance to stop wasting my time and do things quickly and at massively reduced cost but they didn't want to. Also how can a 1.8 litre insignia or a little Nissan note tow a 1.9tonne caravan safely?? Direct line think this is perfectly safe in any conditions...

When people say things like that I just can't listen anymore to their tripe! FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Well Directline seem to be getting their act together a bit and are dispatching an engineer to look over the RR.

This means more wasted time on my part so another thing to stick on the claim Sad

Chasing up the bodyshop i went to yesterday for a quote as well as im guessing the write of bells are now ringing as the hire car costs £200 a day for rental they are no doubt wanting to get it sorted ASAP! Which strangely, is exactly what i want as i dont like having to move the seats in the disco 4 by hand and the slowness of the infotainment system is really REALLY irking me off now. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Be very careful regarding the car you have been lent whilst yours is being assessed/repaired.
Check the paperwork you have been required to sign for to verify who is standing the cost of hire.
If you are claiming against another party, their insurance may dispute that cost and you may be liable to pay for it.
I seem to remember reading in the past about a chap who had to stump up £28000 (yes - you read it correctly) for a "loan" BMW X5 whilst his car was in for six months. The whole thing was reported to have been fraudulently dragged out just to incur that bill.

Just a heads up -

Thumbs Up Where do you go after one of these . . . ?

I repair vehicles for a living - how does a £9800 insurance bill for a 14 year old motorcycle that was written off at a value of £900 add up ? - i'll tell you. The company assessing the damage to the bike took just over 2 months, and all that time the owner had a hire bike at a daily rate of £160 a day.
The company doing the assessing and repair work also hired out bikes.

The insurance company paid the bill without a second thought. That insurance company could have been yours. They'll get the money back from their customers - the likes of you and me. Very Happy
