United Kingdom 2003 Range Rover HSE Td6 Zambezi Silver
New member from the north east

Hi just bought my first range rover, just found this site by looking on landyzone and It looks great, I'm sure Ill need lots of help, anyway iv bought a 2003 td6 rr hse in Zambezi silver, it's a 2 owner vehicle with fsh and it had a new torque converter and rebuild about 5k miles ago, there are a few little things iv found that need sorting since collecting but ill get them sorted asap, I served my time as a landrover mechanic when I left school although I'm a tree surgeon now lol, this is my 27th car in the last 7 years so I'm hoping this is a keeper ( that sounds bad for a 26 yr old when written down!) anyway I'll list the faults iv found below and If anyone has had similar problems I would really appreciate any advice although I will have a good search through the forum

NSR door dosn't unlock with the key, handle still works etc

I found a couple of bubbles of rust under the paint on the nsr arch, I hate rust so this upset me lol, will be getting sorted asap

Few pixels missing on the dash, think I might replace with one of them dynavin style headunits eventually as they were quite popular over on e46zone.com

Air suspension seems a little low on the rear (about 2cm) so it's booked in for a re-calibration in a couple of weeks, it all works fine so hoping that will sort it

Weather strips at the bottom of the windows have bubbled a bit so will be replacing all of these, quoted £30+vat from the dealer

I don't think the points above are to bad for a 9 yr old car, the bodywork is very clean although being 9 years old it looks slightly dated so I would like to eventually change the wheels to something newer, preferably no bigger than 20" and also facelift the front end so it looks like an 06-09 model, sorry for the long post Smile

Getting an IIDTool and finding a level surface can be cheaper than a re-calibration of the suspension and then you get to keep the tool for other stuff. It's amazing how much cash you save by not paying a dealer an hours labour to plug a Faultmate in ....

It's sounds like you are going the right way about getting your FFRR up to standard. You'll love it. I'm sure you will keep it longer than your average 3 or 4 months. Thumbs Up Previously..

Haha you sound like the wife Smile it is quite bad, like I say the rust is the one thing that Censored me off, especially the fact I missed it when viewing, one bodyshop quoted me £90 and another guy said he needs the bumper off before he will give me a quote but I want to make sure it's a good job as if there's a colour difference I'll be gutted as I'm very picky! It seems quite a common problem looking through the forum, anyone had it on theirs and how much did you pay?

Just an update on the rust, you can hardly see it but it is going to get worse, I think the guy who quoted £90 will just scrape off the surface rust and spray it which then I'm pretty sure it will return within the year, so I went back down to the guy iv heard al lot of good reports about, I talked to him for a while and he really knew his stuff, he will strip it back, shot blast it, use an infa red light to make sure all moisture has gone then seal it all, then spray it, I'm pretty confident his work will be top notch and be quoted £240 a side but said that's just a rough guess till be sees what it's like. I was going to sell it as this really put me off but I do like it and if I get the rust sorted I'm be happy with it. On another note I had it on eBay and got offered £8750 which I was considering taking but another one ended lastnight, same year, 20k more miles, no gearbox work and it was a cat d and it sold for £9300, who would rather have this over mine? Just because it has 22" overfinch alloys!

What would you swap for now? There is no better appointed car in my opinion.
I look at other cars for sale and think, what no remote pre- heat, no heated steering wheel. When we get round to summer no cooled seats? Headlights that don't peek round the corner for you?
I've owned a few cars too, but this is the best specced by a country mile.

When I change mine, it will be for a newer one.

Sounds like a good price on the paintwork, get some before and after pics posted.
Had it, loved it!

I haven't got any of them options on my poor hse lol, something to aim for I suppose, there's a few issues to sort then I think I will be happy with it, iv got OCD when it comes to cars, the tiniest thing puts me off but then I need to remind myself it's nearly 10 years old, I do think my range rover looks quite dated though compared to a lot on here, even of the same year, hopefully over the next few months I can get I like new, think I've got a good base, the bodywork is immaculate as is the interior barring the little bubbles on the inner arch, it's had the gearbox done and its only on 97k miles so I think it's worth putting the effort in with it, I also like a good forum when I own a car and there's no denying this is a great forum!
