It doesn't help not knowing though, does it !

£3k for a brand new box sounds about right, but £3k to rebuild an old box is expensive

Following up on Steve’s reference to Valve Body Express, I’ve asked their UK distributor (https://www.automaticchoice.com/uk_contact.php) for a quote on a L322 GM 5L40-E valve block fitted with Sonnax kits – I’ll let you know when I receive a response.

Thanks, Phil! That is exactly the name I couldn't remember the other day. I have them in the bookmarks of my home PC - saved me the time. Thumbs Up

They also have an address in the NL for those on the mainland.

Hi all, thanks for your input. I have got car booked into "Beds Auto-transmisions" tomorrow. Their website looks good and after visiting them today I am glad to report that they have all the tooling to repair the valve block using Sonnax parts and have two flow machines for testing them. They were very helpful and friendly and had three RR's and one BMW X5 in whilst I was there. They showed me what they were doing on these and being a mechanic I was very impressed. The price quoted was also very reasonable as well. They offer 18months warranty on it which is very reassuring. Once done I will let you know what it's like.
Cheers

The jury is still out at the moment. The car seems to be good but I have not yet done any motorway driving. They ask for a check up after 500 miles which was carried out last week (all good) and then a gearbox service including oil change at 6000 miles or 6 months (est. £250 cost). With this additional cost the total will be less than £2500 in total for the job. They have changed everything and reamed the valve block fitting sonnex valves. So all in all I think that I am pleased. Smile The Best 4x4 by far, so long as you have deep pockets.
