After a water crossing, I have a "Check Side Light" error and have been having dead battery issues.

Silly question tho have you checked the lights under the wing mirrors if you have them ! I know you wouldn't have been anywhere near that depth but in case water got into the wiring , and also if you have any entering and exiting lights in the rear doors ...... |

You're a genius, I checked all lights, and it is the light under the Wing Mirror.
