United Kingdom 2002 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Zermatt Silver
2002 vs 2006 plus

Apart from being sick of buying stuff for my 2002 vogue v8 I am unsurprisingly loving it! I didn't want to go mad and spend a fortune on a later model just in case I didn't take to it, but the more I think about it I know I'd be happy to continue with th ff for a good few years. My dilemma is what are the advantages of the later models over mine? Is it really worth spending 15-20k when I could spend 3-4k updating mine? I would also like to go for a good LPG setup, so with that in mind and hopefully all the niggles eventually sorted is it a better option to keep it?

My advice would be to go for a 2006 Supercharged, and LPG that. You'll pick up the car for £13k, so after converting it you'll have spent £15,500, and you'll have the best Range Rover possible. 250 miles from a tank which costs £60 to fill, 7 ish seconds to 60, RSE, great suspension, etc etc. You'll never look back.

That's my tuppence worth anyway! (I might be biased, I've had two, and missing having one!) Thumbs Up

If you still enjoy driving it, keep it for a while. Then upgrade when you feel the need for an uplift. No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

That's why I'm asking though, how do they compare? Obviously there's the bodywork which could be easily sorted, the interior looks very similar, certainly not ££££'s worth of differences, and the engine?
I think this time next year I would be lucky to get 6k for mine I think in that time I could have it mechanically sound and spend 4k on upgrades and it would look pretty much the same, and with no potential problems to worry about with buying another car? I've just had a good look on eBay and it's looking like 20k for something genuine, any less and they have similar mileage to what I have now

Have a look on range rover.net it explains all the specs etc from model years
The 'most' system is good also the jaguar v8 is good with the newer 6speed box

The suspension set up on the S/C is a great improvement, I believe it was carried through or even possibly improved on the TDV8. If you go for a 2007 Facelift, then you'll also get vastly improved cabin appearance, design and cooling, plus noise insulation.

I'd say the L322 evolved substantially over the 12 years, with massive leaps forward in 2006 and 2007, don't let the lack of exterior changes fool you, the later cars just carried on getting better. As above, look on the model year guide for the detail, to decide what's important to you.

Personally, I'd love the 2007, just for the better cabin, noise insulation, and of course don't forget about terrain response on the 2007 MY! Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

If going for a later model, test the seats first on a decent run.
The seats in my facelifted 06 model with the older interior were superior to the seats in my 08 model.
Yes, the interior was nicer. But the most important part is where you park your rear end. And for me the seats were cheaper and less comfortable with less adjustment.

Overall I wish I'd never sold the 06 to get get an 08, but I did because I had the noisy/slow Td6 and wanted the TDV8.
It looked better inside and out, but it wasn't a nicer place to sit, which for me was very important. Because of this I fell out of love with the 08 after around 6 months and sold it. I'd had the 06 for two years and only sold it because I wanted the engine upgrade. If I could have justified runing an SC, I'd have gone back to an 06 model.

The 2006MY facelift offered many improvements, externally and internally.

Every year of the L322's progression things were improved. I drove a friends TD6 2002 and when compared to my (then) 2005 TD6 his felt and sounded like a MAssey Ferguson.

My current 2008MY is just beautiful to drive, so smooth and effortless, they do just get better as the years roll on.

As you say, is it worth spending£15k? Best bet is to try one, go look at a few, drive them and see what you think. If you got a TDV8 there's no need for LPG conversions, facelift conversions etc, which means you can spend more time actually driving the car! Discovery 4 HSE

Just need to source £15k though Confused
From what I conclude the later ones are better to drive with newer suspension etc but at the speeds I float around at im not sure it would be that much different, and the v8 is silky smooth and with lpg would be as cheap to run as a later tdv8. Its a very confusing dilema to be honest Confused I only use this for a few weekend drives or if we go out anywhere nice, so im ashamed to admit its actually more about the visuals overall Embarassed Ive just been looking on ebay and theres a few 2011 kits out there at a good price, a good mate of mine owns a bodyshop so the work could be done at a good price Cool
