Snow Chains on 20" Alloys

As I'm driving down to the Alps for a Ski break in January I'm looking into snow chains as the Surrender Monkeys state you have to have some in the car.

Now, the RR owners manual says you cannot fit snow chains to 20" alloys.

It also states only to put chains on rear wheels.

Now, the Range Rover Accessories online catalogue shows chains for 20" wheels and says to only fit to the front wheels?

Could this get MORE confusing?

Has anyone done the ski run up into the mountains on normal UK tyres and been AOK? Discovery 4 HSE

I think the manual information dates from the early days, when 20" tyres weren't common and LR didn't make chains that would fit. Go with the info in the accessories booklet.

If you have trouble getting hold of LR chains, there are a few alternatives to chains, like 'spikes-spider' or snow socks.

I drove my SC to Austria earlier this year on the standard 20" Continental tyres. They were fine even through fresh deep snow. Even so, I'll probably get a set of proper winter tyres ordered for my next trip to give extra confidence whilst driving at speed on the German autobahns.
