Hello there

I have got a 2011 vogue and it rolls back when in "D" on a hill. Is this right when the handbrake is off? I'm sure that it should hold steady ready to pull away. This is on the road and not off road in an off road setting. Any advice please?

I thought only tired old autos did that, with sloppy torque convertors. My 1997 Rangie will roll backwards in "D" (and forwards in "R" for that matter!) but my 2003 does no such thing - even on severe slopes.

I am suspicious that you have a problem - but best hold fire until we get a post from someone learned in the mysteries of the gearbox. In the meantime, try to avoid any rollback. I'm sure I've read in a handbook or somewhere to apply more gas / do everything necessary to stop the car rolling against the selected direction of the convertor. 2003 4.4 HSE Epsom Green / Sand. Hi Roy, my 2011 does the same. Not sure if its supposed to or not but I do remember on a LRE day the instructor talked about the vehicle not rolling back for a short period when starting on a hill so it may only do that in one of the off road modes. 2021 P400 Silicon Silver AB

Mine does this too in certain instances. If you roll up to a hill slowly with hardly any breaking, you should find it'll stay in place - but be warned that is putting wear on the torque convertor, so I wouldn't do it all day long.

If you're on a hill and put in D from stood still or brake heavily / hand brake on & let go, if it's steepish, it will roll. Not a problem, I think it's where modern autos almost disengage the drive when stood still to save fuel & the box. If you don't roll back, then it's using the torque convertor to keep the car moving as such.

Best thing is used the park brake on a hill
