Lloyd LR Carlisle, Bodyshop Review

Hi,

Has anyone used this main dealer bodyshop and if so, what sort of job did they do please?

Our RR is due a service there in a couple of weeks and also needs some minor collision damage repaired so if anyone can recommend their bodyshop, it might be worth our killing 2 birds with one stone.

Thanks

Thumbs Up

IMHO I wouldn't go anywhere near a main dealer body shop, have had several cars repaired at them over the years and without exception they were the worst jobs I have ever seen.... bit like the mechanics..... they pay peanuts and get monkeys....

Far better off with a mid sized shop where the owner still has his finger on the ball and oversees the results.... Thumbs Up Pete

I can honestly say every single vehicle I've had anything to do with that Lloyds LR have worked on has been poor in some detail or another.

My 08 Defender was so bad they had it for 3 months in the year and still never rectified the faults I reported within 2 days of ownership. Depsite this they were still unwilling to play fair.

During the first month they lent me a nearly new D4 while they attempted repairs (leaks, gearbox issues, body rivets missing etc etc). First night of rain the D4 carpets were like a swimming pool - apparently the valet chap had been rough and damaged the external window trim. From then on they loaned me progressively worse cars.

My current 12 plate 90 HT unfortunately had some warranty work done by lloyds LR prior to me owning the car - the mess they made was dreadful. They even managed to miss-align a hose clip so it wore through an adjacent coolant hose resulting in an over-heat situation. I've now replaced loads of electrical clips they broke and fitted new bolts / screws to the holes that were missing them.

For me, I'd buy spares from Lloyds but never ever a car or workshop service. My advice would be to avoid them like the plague and go elsewhere.

Good luck! Back in a Defender!!

It would be out of my way to go there but... they persevered and addressed a number of not inexpensive snags after we bought the car so I thought they might be worth the effort; and this car has been fantastic to date so they appear to have sold us 'a good un'.

The replies to date are not confidence inspiring though!

Thanks for the input Thumbs Up

I like Lloyd LR in Kelso and their recent paint work on my car was good. I am happy to recommend Kelso, both for craft skills and the way I have been treated.

I am afraid I was less happy with Lloyd Carlisle. I used them for replacement of my corroded upper tailgate under warranty as Kelso does not have a paintshop which LR approve for paint warranty work following the introduction of the aluminium cars. The new tailgate came back with a side seam not properly sealed. My pictures of the three gaps led to LR approving a further new tailgate. As Lloyd Carlisle had a problem in collecting/delivering my car it was agreed that the second tailgate would be painted at Carlisle and then sent to Kelso, I would take my car there and Kelso would fit it. It turned out the second tailgate had the same problem. Kelso sealed the side seam on the first replacement and that solved the problem. The second tailgate went back to LR.

While my car had been with Lloyd Carlisle I got them to repaint a corroded rear wheel arch. This had to be at my expense as LR refused to honour their paintwork warranty, citing "external influence - weather conditions", which I continue to regard as not fair and reasonable. Anyway, after a few months the top coat started flaking off the undercoat on this wheelarch. I got Lloyd Kelso to repaint it (at Lloyd Carlisle's expense) and so far all well.

Lloyd Carlisle seem not to have LR vehicles as loan cars - I got a Mini when my car was away for the tailgate work. Lloyd Kelso by contrast provided a late Defender 90 hardtop with Goodyear MT/R tyres, a treat for me albeit I was very glad to get back to my own car, however iconic the 90.

I have told Lloyd Kelso that my cars won't be going to Carlisle again, which might introduce a challenge if I even need work on an in-warranty 405, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. Only Range Rovers since 1988

3 forum member replies and no encouraging ones for Carlisle are not inspiring me to make a long trip just to drop the car off for works to begin Big Cry

Thumbs Up
