Help - broken down in Calais!

Hi All

Am currently broken down on a road in Calais - drove up from Geneva today without a problem and car was serviced yesterday! Car is 2007 TDV8 Vogue SE - stopped at a fuel station and now car won't restart - engine doesn't turnover at all. Problem is that I can't get the glovebox to open to access the car manuals etc (electric power for all things seems to be ok) - does anyone know how to open the glovebox any other way than pressing the button with the arrows on please?

Cheers

Aled

Can you get a cheap voltmeter and check the battery voltage ?? Also, disconnect the battery for 10 mins to reset everything. Are you sure your key is OK as in the battery in it is fine (does it open and close the doors ??). MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

I would bet good money your alternator's goosed. Mine did EXACTLY this, on my way to a job interview no less. No warning, no red light, just a crap load of errors followed by changing to 4th gear and staying there until the last thing to die was the fuel lift pump, which was game over.

Get the bonnet up, get some jump leads on it and you should have enough power to open gloveboxes etc.

You could also disconnect the battery earth lead and get another car to charge it up a bit with jump leads. Would at least get you back to British soil to get it fixed.

Bear in mind the battery will be so discharged that even the hazards won't work. Utterly pancaked. Alternator on a TDV8 is an OK-ish job but does need radiators out etc. Not a side of the road job.

Best of luck.

Dom.

Have you double checked it is correctly in Park? Even if it appears to be, move it into drive, and back into Park, if you're getting nothing at all, then it's probably that the car believes that the safety criteria for starting the car have not been fulfilled. It's happened to me before! Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

Wouldn't stop the gloveboxes opening Boz. Only lack of electrons will do that.

Missed that when I read about the problem, wow, does the glovebox really need current to open? Shocked Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

Switzerland 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Stornoway Grey

Hi All

Apologies for the delay in updating but I just got back from my holiday and was reunited with my car in Switzerland.

We ended up leaving the car in Calais, going through the tunnel in a French taxi and then on to Gatwick where we got a hire car for our time in the UK. On the return journey, we got a UK taxi across on the ferry and then on to Lille, where we picked up another hire car to drive back to Switzerland. None of the dealers in Northern France had availability to look at the car and so it was returned to my local dealer in Switzerland. It turns out that the alternator went and so the battery. Both now replaced and all now seems to be fine. Thank you for the responses / advice.

Cheers

Aled
