Seized engines in 2010-2012 4.4 TDV8

I have seen quite a few of these listed for sale now - what is the common cause? Is it failed DPF regens which ultimately result in oil dilution - the diluted oil loses it's lubricating properties as it is diluted and the engine just seizes up?

It's not a common issue on the L322 at all - very rare infact. Nothing to worry about. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

120k miles on mine - i have no concerns about seizure.
My only thought is that the oil JLR recommends is probably biased towards fuel economy rather than max engine longevity. A dealer once told me the “design life” of cars in general was only 7 years / 100k miles. As my MY11.5 4.4TDV8 is past its design life, I may start putting a mix of the recommended 5w-30 oil and low SAPS 10w-40 oil when i do oil changes (every six months or 6k miles, which ever comes sooner)

Would be interested if you share some links to the RRs for sale with seized engines.

My guess would be that the most common cause would be poor or none of existent servicing.
How many 10 year old cars are running on no name pattern Oil filters and the cheapest oil the owner could find?

That 5w-40 is a good find Thumbs Up - just ordered 5w-30 from Opie last week but not put it in yet so may try this instead for my summer service. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

That oil is C3 so mid SAPS and not low SAPS. Not sure why Opie are calling it low SAPS. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

I'm still convinced some of these failures are factory related, maybe just a part with a slight tolerance difference used or installed slightly off or as mentioned poor service. Though I have heard of full main dealer serviced cars blowing up with crank failure I haven't read that about the L322 or L405 yet.

The thing about the L322 is, it now at the age where a regular person can afford one but maybe not afford to maintain it. If I hear a new noise from the D3 or the RR or I have a part fail I usually have it ordered that evening. I'm not taking a chance running it with a funny noise or whatever but Im sure many others who may not be enthusiasts possibly drive them on no matter what or service them with cheap and nasty parts.

I do a lot of driving for work and I do see from time to time people driving with smoke billowing or terrible noises coming from the engine and they are oblivious. I guess a few of them might buy L322 also!

As for oil, I have switched the D3 to the heavier oil but I think for the RR Ill just service more often, especially when the oil extraction makes it a very clean and easy job. Current yokes
