Door release cable

My drivers side door release cable broke this afternoon so I can't open it from the outside. I have removed the door card to access the cable and am awaiting the replacement to arrive tomorrow (Thanks for your help Dan Thumbs Up ).

I want to lock it up tonight and I was wondering whether you can still open the door from the inside with the door card removed? Is it just a case of pulling the internal door release cable by hand? Not something I really want to test just in case I can't get it open again!!
