My VW Touareg had the diesel heater as many cars do now as standard figment. The idea is only as an aide to heat the thing up quicker! A large diesel motor takes an age to produce hot air otherwise. All you have to do is find your nearest Webasto fitter and hand over about £700 of your hard earned pound notes and they will fit the timer module etc. Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

It was a X5 52 plate.

I fitted a remote switch from maplins which enabled me to activate it from inside my house.

Im not sure if it had the timer on the dashboard

I think that's just the heater for the coolant and block. I'm looking for a cabin heating option ie where the fans come on...  Graham

it was an option on the BMW's i think. It was a Webasto aux heater which was fitted to the cars with the 3.0 diesel, it was fitted as an engine heater as standard but could be upspecced to a cabin heater at mfr.

My e39 had one which was a block heater though the instructions were there for the timed climate in the hand book, my e61 had all the bells and whistles and could be timed on.

Never used it. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

The X5 and the E39 are more or less the same as a RR electronically (at least the early L322 and E53 are). So the same procedure to activating the park-heat function goes for BMWs as for RRs. The IIDTool will even do this on an X5...

Graham, are you looking for a new car? (Not sure I understand what you are asking for).
Webasto FBHs as park heaters are relatively common in Germany. There have been strict laws in place against letting a vehicle idle to warm up for a long time. So, if you want a toasty car in the winter, you don't have much of a choice. Either FBH or electric block heater. I am relatively sure that all diesels with a FBH as an auxiliary heater have a park heat option - even if the manufacturers make it hard to unlock this feature. Mechanically and electronically it is the same unit in both functions, so it hardly makes sense not to have this programmed in.

Webasto also makes FBH's (and retrofit kits) for petrol vehicles. Kit cost is roughly €1200-1400 and installation another €500-800.
