New to RR. Advice please.

Hi everybody. I'm new to this site (and RRs) and would appreciate some advice. I'm looking at a black Vogue V8 Petrol (54 plate) on my local used-car dealer's forecourt.

There's no-one around to talk to (until 5th Jan) so all I know is that it looks immaculate, in and out, apart from some condensation in the near-side rear light, paint flaked off all the door handles and some corrosion on a metal strip below the driver's window. It's advertised as two owners, "full service history" and 65,000 miles.

Can anyone suggest what scary signs I should be looking for when I give it a going over on Monday?

Regards
Dave.

Rust on the rear wheel arch lips and on the lower bit of the top tailgate.

Water ingress in the boot / spare wheel well.

Make sure all the electrics work and the air suspension etc.

Make sure it goes in and out of low range.

Collapsed / perished PCV hoses on that old petrol......back of the engine.

Head gasket / coolant issues.

There are some buyers guides in the wiki section......

Oh, and welcome to the mad house.....!

Thanks mjd, I've looked through the wiki guide and I'm already having second thoughts.

I've started to draw up a checklist but I'd still be grateful for any further suggestions.

Dave.

Go and have a look at it and take it for a drive. Then drive a few more. You'll soon feel what's good and bad.

I bought the first one I saw, but then I'd looked at others for a mate a year or so before. I also looked at others but went back and got the deal I was looking for after I left it for a week or so........

Don't forget that peeps on the forums tend to post up with issues. Rarely do folks post up that their car is working fine.

These cars tend to have stock problems with known fixes. All you need to do is check everything and use any minor issues as a bargaining tool.

Check the rear wiper washer works. Mine needed a new motor in the end.

They are cracking cars.

Have you been in a few already ? 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

There is a lot of bad things you read about but they are the most comfortable/capable cars - you just need to learn to forgive it Very Happy

Or do what I did buy the first one you see even though it had tell tale signs it wasn't the best one, sell it and regret parting with it. No other car comes close so I'm looking for another one.

^ as above! it's very easy to be put off by all the warnings of all sorts of issues.

It's true that RRs can and do have their problems, but sometimes you need to see the potential and quality of them without being scared to take that leap of faith Thumbs Up Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Costs so little you can give money away to strangers Whistle

There are loads for sale, I got 12 months warranty with mine. It was 8 years old and had 115k miles.

They offered me the chance to renew it at the end of 12 months...... And in Nov 2013 I paid £425 for 24 months cover if I did it there and then....

Not been any issues claiming so far.

Takes some of the worry away.

Get the seller to add it in as part of the deal. You may get lucky. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8
