This one is slightly dearer but has less mileage and one owner, not able to give you a direct link Adam and it's only 71 mile away from you and has all the bits

Lots of people have said to bide my time till the right one turns up but sometimes the right one turns up really quickly!

Something inside me keeps saying to keep the one I have as it's perfectly good and not spend the money. Mr Scrooge in me coming out. Basically shelling out 20K to change the car is a lot of money. Discovery 4 HSE

I agree completely, as long as you are satisfied with the present one why spend so much on a newer one? As 2008-2009 look the same as 2006, I would wait 2-3 years for the 2010 to surface at a reasonable price.

Well better the Devil ( car ) you know as they say, roughly in the same boat, the wife has offered to buy me either.

A new 2010 mdl in May next year for my birthday or a 07/08 Full Overfinch TDV8, But i keep thinking well there is Nowt wrong with the SC that i have and so far not had any serious trouble with it.

(Kiss of Death on that Now) Whistle Whistle

So kind of in the same mood of thought as yourself, was actually thinking of getting in contact with DCC 4X4 and doing the 2010 upgrade look.

Main problem for me is that I just LOVE the TDV8 compared to the TD6, so much nicer for cruising and so much more power. I'd be looking at getting a remap too by a certain company as they say it transforms the engine, certainly did with the TD6 I'm in now.

Also, I don't have many vices, I don't smoke, do drugs, drink, go out every night/weekend to the pub, spend on football matches, have kids to spend money on /leech me dry etc. I basically work in the week (which involves plenty of driving), do household jobs/DIY/Gardening at weekends and some shooting if I can fit it in. So my car is my one extravagance.

My mindset is that if you do lots of miles, have a car you enjoy being sat in with plenty of toys and mainly, safer than everyone else's car so you don't die in a euro box

Sometimes I feel fully justified in swapping my car, other times I feel guilty about it, but you know what, you could be dead next week so you may as well enjoy life.

I'm great at talking myself into things! Big Cry Discovery 4 HSE

For me if you are paying the difference in cash i.e from savings and you will still have plenty left over and would only get a poor return on it on deposit then you might as well enjoy your money and get one but if you are borrowing the money it is more sensible to stick with what you have and save up if it is that important.

How much extra is a 2010 MY and is it worth waiting another 6-12 months for prices to fall and get one of those?

More questions than answers Big Cry

The cheapest 2010 MY car I have seen is about 55k for a Vogue. That's another 16K ontop of what I planned to spend. I think I will consider one of those when they are 2 years old or more, would be good to see if they have any issues with the TFT screens etc.

Plus, there will be more on the market 2nd hand by then and maybe some of them will have some nice extras like the reclining rear seats with adjustable headrests. And, the surround camera system seems to rare on current cars.

I'd be very happy with a 2007/2008 Vogue SE. Discovery 4 HSE

The problem with cars is that they keep updating or releasing new models so as soon as you buy you have your eyes on the next model Big Cry

£55k seems too much of a premium over a TDV8 although i suspect that as more 2010 MY become available the price of a TDV8 will start to drop

How much extra are you paying over your TD6 to get a newer car with less miles and the TDV8 engine etc..

I would put an approximate monetary value on it and as long i was happy with that premium i would do it.

For me i wouldn't pay over £10000 for the difference but i would certainly do it for an extra £5-6000. Remember it is each to their own and sometimes the more opinions you get the harder it becomes so go with your gut. The benefit of delaying the decision is hopefully the price will drop a bit.

I reckon mine would sell privately for about 19k or 20k as its in such good condition despite nearly 90,000 miles on the odometer.

I estimate cost to change about £18K ontop. For that money thought I see the benefits to me being thus:

TDV8 engine -power increase, lower revving at cruise speeds, smoother, quieter
    6 speed auto
    Terrain Response
    Brembo brakes
    Black leather interior
    DVD with rear screens
An AUX socket for my iPod
    Adaptive lights
    Air cooled seats

And then depending on the exact car I get:

20" alloys
Side steps

You never make money on cars, its always about how much you spend or lose. By buying one at 2yrs old someone else has paid the VAT @ 17.5% and taken the main hit on depreciation. It slows down after that. Discovery 4 HSE

NBunney, Just been looking at your gallery, it's a lovely car, how many miles were on it when you bought it?

My local dealer has told me that rear screens were dropped on the 08 plate onwards and became a cost option on VSE's.

So, in order to get them looks like I can only go up to a 57 plate, but that ok, that's about where I was looking to anyway. Discovery 4 HSE
