Diff Failure on 07 TDV8

Car in for service and just been told that the rear diff has failed at 60,000 miles? Has anyone else had a rear diff failure on a TDV8? I have not heard of this. Would be interested to hear if others have. Cheers.

I hope they are putting it thru lr customer service as that's a very low mileage for failure to occur.

How did they test it had failed and su you get any warning signs?!?

Is it an ediff?? FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
Mantec Sump Guard, Rigid Load liner, MY10 BT upgrade.

Ouch that will cost...

Assuming it has a FSH (dealer) push for assistance with the cost.

I did this on a few occasions, with success.

Are they sure it is the rear diff?, I had a fault that the dealer thought was the rear diff or the transfer box. Their recommendation was to replace the diff "first" as it was cheaper. I refused!

To cut a long story short I took it to another dealer and contacted LR warranty. They send an engineer out who diagnosed a knackered transfer box.

It was replaced free of charge over 2 years out of warranty.

I will keep you guys posted. Yes the car is full LR Service history from new. It was in for its service when the issue was identified as the rear diff. I had reported the beginnings of a noise. They investigated and said it was the diff. I will keep you posted.

If it is FLRSH it should have recently had the transfer box oil changed. If done badly, I guess it could have affected the rear diff...shold not be failing at 60,000miles!

It is full dealer service history, there is no mention of the transfer box oil being changed in any of the paperwork, and it would have been done if it was on the list of recommendations. The first owner would never of skimped on something like that. Are you sure a TDV8 is scheduled for transfer box oil change by 60,000 miles? I did not realise that.

UPDATE on TDV8 Diff failure.

As advised, said I would let you know when I had an update in relation to the rear diff failure on my 07 TDV8. I wanted to wait until the cheque was here before tempting fate and saying all was sorted.

Diff failure identified.
Informed the garage that I had a warranty from Warranty Direct.
Garage informed Warranty Direct of this.
Warranty Direct agreed to the repair.
Two days later, repair carried out and car ready for collection.
In the mean time I wrote to Land Rover MD in relation to this happening on what to my mind is a (relatively) young car doing this. Land Rover effectively paid for the excess on the warranty.

I have to say MJ Fews, Warranty Direct and Land Rover all dealt with this quickly and with no mucking about. Could not ask for more from any of them to be honest. The deal with Warranty Direct is that I pay the dealer then claim the amount back from them. Got the cheque in the post on Friday.

All the people I spoke to about this who seem to know what they are talking all say they have never heard of this happening in this age of TDV8 so just have to accept that it is one of those unlucky things in life. Done nearly a thousand miles since and everything is A OK.
