Tax rebate?

Hi Guys,
In the forum someone mentioned tax rebate, could someone kindly explain to me what that is and how to claim that?
My situation is that I drive daily return 130 mile to a permanent place of work, in this case can I claim a tax rebate? if so, how?

If can not, Will that help if I register a company as self employed?

as the I have to pay for my own fuel, so any tax rebate will be huge benefit.

Many thanks in advance.

My understanding is that, whether you're an employee, self-employed or a company director, you can't claim travelling to work as a deductible expense.

Perhaps if you were self-employed or incorporated and changed your employer's status to that of client you might then be able to deduct your travelling costs. I dare say the Revenue are aware of this tactic so perhaps it is something to consider only after full accountancy advice. Visiting a single client might well be regarded as travelling to a single permanent place of work rather than travelling between clients so I think you are exposed to risk. 2003 4.4 HSE Epsom Green / Sand. Lovely!

It depends on your "place of work" really. If you are contracted as a work from home employee, and your employer has requested you be on-site, then technically you can claim expenses from your employer. As a self-employed person it depends on the contract you have. If you are travelling to a client site then that can be claimed as mileage from your company. It does save a little tax, but it's nothing amazing.

As a contractor you are allowed to claim up to 18 months I believe as after that it is deemed to become your permanent place of work (and therefore not claimable) Ash

can't be claimed for if your an employee and it's your usual place of work.

You can't just decide to register as self employed, but work soley for a company as an employee and then expect to claim your fuel as expenses.

You're either self employed (doing your own companies work etc) and so travelling to various clients / working away from your usual place of work is allowable or if your an employee (working for a company) travelling to a normal place of work is not allowable.

I believe it's two years claimable.

That's what I'm working to.

I also claim (reasonable and receipted) lunch expenses and car parking. Si. <This is my name.

I work for InterGalactic MegaCorp.
When my "office" moved to my house, I thought I would have to keep track of mileage and all that.
Instead, they just pay me a flat addition to my pay.
Actually works out in my favor sometimes.
That, plus the cellphone allowance helps put gas in the trucks! Jim
