Hi mate, I had a similar issue with my Irish Wolfhound and I made a board that allowed him to walk in and out of the car. The jumping downwards is apparently very bad for the shoulders of dogs and we walked him a lot so he was in the car at least once a day so that is jumping out twice. I didn't have a FFRR but a GMC van and the double side doors made it easy, the the board was hinged and behind the smaller side door. It was just flipping it down/up and that was it.

I know, they are massive, but their temperament is great and owning a lively dog such as a collie or spaniel doesn't appeal so much now. I may end up with the safe option of a Labrador or Retriever, but having met a Leonberger I'm really taken with them.

I can't really help AMD but I met a Leonberger whilst out on a walk with my Rotty the other day and I too fell instantly in love!

Vertical takeoff now that's given me an idea...how about a tail lift for the RR?

My GSD doesn't much like getting in or out, although she gets excited about going in the car and seems to love travelling, and we have no problems with her once she's in! I tried a ramp but she wouldn't use it - maybe should have persevered. Also if you're getting a pup, get him/her to use it from day 1 then it'll be normal for them.

I love a big dog. I have a 60kg rottie at the moment. He's 5 years old today, (Happy Birthday, Baby!), so its a bit premature to be planning his replacement but to soften the emotional devastation when he goes I'm semi-demi-tentatively thinking about what I'll have next and a Great Dane is looking like a super choice. |

The bigger the dog, the shorter the life span. I was lucky, my wolfhound lived for just 8 years (the average at that time was 8 and lots died earlier), although I would have preferred 10, 11, 12 years.
