TDV8 service interval records.

Hi, Great site you guys have here. I have read a lot on the service intervals on the full fat tdv8 but have not quite found the answer I am looking for. So thought I would ask what some people are getting so I can see how different or normal my situation is.

I have an 07 tdv8 which I have known from new and belonged to a friends dad (first owner) During his time, it seemed to get serviced every 11,000 miles in Feb of each year. since I have taken ownership it has now gone 17,000 miles since the last service and still is not requesting a service.

Can I ask what some of you are getting in between service requests to get an idea for an average, I have read about the arguments for and against getting services done before requested by the car and see both sides of the arguments with it. So thought a good starting point would be to see what other people are getting.

On a secondary note, in my owners book it says that you can turn the ignition on to the first position then press the check button on the dashboard within 5 seconds of this and it will tell you when the next service is due. However mine will only comment that everything is ok and not give any more details. Does anyone else have experience of this?

cheers!

Thanks for the reply! Yes I think so too. Out of interest, where do Land Rover advise the 15,000 or 12 months? I could not find reference to that anywhere in the paperwork.

I was told by Land Rover the 15 000 mile or 12 months doesnt apply to the range rover. The car will let you know apparently

the 12 month interval will always be active.

the miles parameter is dependent on the way you drive. Can be 1000 miles or 50000 miles.

Check with the previous owner that the service indicator worked. On my last one it never, ever came on - I would always bottle.

Yes I did wonder that, but I asked him and it always chirpped up with him. Two Land Rover dealers and Land Rover advise it is only when the car asks for one. Apparently it is done off the fuel consumption. The decision for a service that is.

That said I will go on the principle that at least every 12 months I will get it serviced as I am still in P38 mindset for servicing. I cannot see the harm in changing the oil more regularly and the increased cost of doing it when not technically needed due to modern oil is very much offset by my piece of mind! My P38 was a 4.6 and from 90,000 miles I had the oil and filter changed every 4,000 miles. I sold it with 126,000 odd miles and never a complaint or any tappet noise or engine issues. Wont be so close with this but will certainly do oil change every year at a minimum!! Thanks for all your input.

Did the same with mums car, she has a Skoda Octavia TDI with DSG , fantastic car, but was on the VAG variable service, first thing we did was change it to the every 10,000 miles once it hit 80,000 miles for the same reason. Cannot harm!

Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
