Headlight bulb help!!

So, I've upgraded my fogs and sidelights to LEDs, which are much brighter, but they're also both about 6000k in colour rather than the OEM 4300k.

As such I want to upgrade the main beam and dipped beam bulbs to match at 6000k.

My car is a MY2007 Supercharged SE with the adaptive bi-xenons.

I'm happy that I just need H7 55w halogens for the dipped beam, but can anyone tell me for certain what I need for the main (xenon) beam? I THINK it's either a D1R or a D1S - what's the difference? Both look like they'd fit...

It's chucking it down and I don't have a garage, so can't go and pull them out right now to check.

And finally - are the static bending (cornering) bulbs H8s?

I've looked for all this info in the owners manual and it's worse than useless... Past (too many to list, but a few favs)...

I'm not 100% certain but if you have bi-xenons it should be 1 xenon bulb for dipped and main beam with a shutter mechanism, plus a fill-in halogen main beam which comes on in addition to the xenon bulb.
Sorry this doesn't give you a total answer, but it may stop you buying unnecessary bulbs Very Happy

Thanks Daveo. I assume you mean D1S right?

And thanks Dave699, as I mentioned, I do have the adaptive bi-xenons and I know one is halogen and one is a 'proper' xenon bulb.

So I'll need D1S for the main beam, H7s for the dipped beam. Cool.

Now I just need confirmation on the cornering lights and I'm ready to order!

Anyone know the bulb size for the static bending lamps? Question Idea Question Past (too many to list, but a few favs)...

You're right.

That terminology always confuses me...to me "main" sounds like your normal (main!) headlights and "dipped" sounds like side lights. But dipped are your 'normal' headlights that you use all the time and main are...to use a technical term...your 'flashers' (full beam).

Very confusing. Past (too many to list, but a few favs)...

Perfect, thanks Daveo.

Now I need to decide whether to buy proper error free SMD LEDs or try "xenon look" bulbs which are a fraction of the price....hmmmm.....

So...to swap out all the bulbs at the front of the car I'll need -

2 x D1S xenons for the dipped beam
2 x H7 for the main beam
2 x 501 for side lights
2 x H8 for cornering lights
2 x H11 for fog lights

if it was mine , i would go for ,

2 x D1S xenons for the dipped beam ----------- go for 6000k temperature bulbs, more of a whiter light..
2 x H7 for the main beam --------- xenon look bulbs
2 x 501 for side lights --------- smd bulbs
2 x H8 for cornering lights ------- ?
2 x H11 for fog lights -------- again, xenon look bulbs ... - .- -.

I think you might be right. I was considering SMD LEDs for the H7s and H8s, but a) they're expensive and b) I don't actually know how well LEDs will perform for full beam and cornering and actually given that they're not on all the time it's less important.

I've got cree LED fogs in though...they look great! Will get all of this gubbins fitted and take some pics... Thumbs Up Past (too many to list, but a few favs)...

Hmmm. I'd be a little worried about doing that as the Cree LEDs are so bright I might dazzle people - they'll be great cutting through a pea souper but might be a bit much for DRLs. Past (too many to list, but a few favs)...
