Rear axle Bushes (knucklejoints)

I had my lower K joints replaced 2.5k miles ago because I had been alerted to their wear by a garage inspection. I had an MOT performed last week and guess what - the K joints are munted. How could this be I wondered - I got them to jack it up and show me - yes they are exhibiting as much up and down movement as a joint could possibly do without actually falling out!
So, assuming that the guy who did the job actually did (it looks like he did and he has a very positive reputation) what could have gone wrong here? I got the joints from paddockspares - anyone have experience with these guys> good or bad?
Perhaps they could have been fitted incorrectly - perhaps they could have been pressed in by the centre rather than the outer and this may have damaged them? I don't think its very likely but then I can't quite believe that they could have worn themselves out in 2.5K of normal non-towing road driving...

i find when fitting ball joints/ bushes or links your best to stick with main dealer parts, all aftermarket stuff just aint up to the job (for long).
