Gumtree , E-Bay or Apple Store

Now that my Phone contract is due its upgrade , i have been looking thru my phone usage lately and calling has dropped quite a bit as i do more texting now …

My point is as i paid £46 a month for the two year term i never ever went over my allowance that my Tariff was on …

So i have been thinking of going back to buying my Phones Sim Free and just getting one of these 30 day rolling contracts …

I have been on Gumtree and E-bay and for a used iPhone 4s phone they are wanting between £300 and £350 but at the back of my head i keep thinking what if i buy one and the seller decides to report it lost or stolen then the phone just becomes an expensive paperweight …

Have fallen into the trap of getting used to Apple products as i have the iP4 just now , but told my sister in law i would give her the phone seeing i was going to buy an iP4s .. Rolling Eyes

Or just bite the bullet and pay the £500 to Apple for peace of mind Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Hi Mick, I'd go with the 'bought from Apple' choice. I can recommend the following MVNO tho Wink

http://www.gomobileuk.com/go-mobile-network.html

(Just so you know it sits on the Everything Everywhere (Orange/T-Mobile) infrastructure).

Alternatively Tesco do a rolling contract, 5000 texts a month, for £7.50 a month...... Land Rover Addict

+1 for buying it new. You get the warranty and Apple's customer service is great. If something goes wrong, you can pop in and switch it over.

I have generally bought my phones outright and would always recommend doing it. Work out how long you plan to keep the phone for before you decide you want to upgrade and do the sums. If it is only a year, then buying outright will always work out cheapest. If it is more like 2 years, a contract or buying outright will work out about the same. Longer than 2 years and it's better have bought outright. I am comparing buying outright and getting 3's £15 monthly contract vs getting the One plan @ £35 per month.

I would recommend looking at 3's £15 rolling contract as it is good value. 300 mins, 300 texts and unlimited data. The only downside with 3 is that their customer services are based in India but the only time I have ever had to deal with them is when I left. I will probably rejoin them once the new iPhone comes out in the summer.

The benefit of the SIM only plans and an unlocked retail device is the flexibility of quickly and easily changing providers. I did 30 day contracts for about 5-6 years and only changed to a 12 month contract as it was the cheapest way to get a iPhone 4S on release day (no longer the case).

One thing to note is that if you are currently on O2 with your iPhone, you will lose Visual Voicemail if you move to another carrier. O2 is the only UK provider to provide the feature at the moment (not even Tesco provides it even though they use the O2 network). Paul

The ip4 has been the longest one so far have had it 12 months the previous 12 were with another two separate handsets only took the 24 month contract as at the time as it suited the purpose

Generally only keep handsets about 6 / 9 month but quite like the iPhone as I say fell into the lazy way Thumbs Up

I'd say stick with the iPhone 4 on a 30 day contract for now and flog it when the new one comes out. Paul

Blooming heck Mick, if i become a son-in-law can i have the RR for free as well when PX time comes round!! Wink Very Happy

I can recommend O2 for rolling contracts as i used them for nearly 3 years like that and saved a packet buying my own phones and then selling them on when bored Smile

GiffGaff can be good to and DMRR's suggestion as well Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
