Trans futted

Today I became a true L322 owner.
My 2003 TD6 decided it did not need reverse gear this morning.
It can creep backwards in low ratio but not very well.
The other gears have obviously got a bit of sympathy and have decided to not shift as sweetly as they have in the past. Did an oil and filter change 5000kms ago:(
Only had it since January and love the stupid thing.
It has been very fortunate as it has 235000km on the clock and 10000 of those I put on.
Now I have to find a rebuilder of these boxes in NZ and hopefully Wellington. Oh the joy and fun now begins.
I am thinking of getting modifications to make it a better gearbox but just need to know what is recommended.
Oh and I will need to buy another vehicle as I cannot see this being a quick fix.

Much sympathy to you, and all credit for taking it like a man! Par for the course for a TD6, and as you say, yours has had a good innings. At least you'll have the peace of mind once it's rebuilt, and won't be waiting for the day of doom.

Rebuilds over here are pretty quick, would expect within a week, and less than £2k, but may be different for you guys, down under, having everything upside down etc!

Good luck with it anyway! RRPhil may be able to give some advice, although his speciality Is the 4.4 petrol gearbox, he seems to be pretty knowledgeable on all of them! 2012 SDV8 Vogue SE

Problem being upside down is money falls out of your pockets into the transmission repairers hands Wink . VW Amarok 2014 Highline auto

Hi Lesmcm
I have no idea what they charge ia Aus for a rebuild nor do i know what they charge here in NZ yet:wink:
I am going to see some trans specialists today. Normally I would remove the gearbox myself but as these are such big vehicles I do not have the garage space to do this.
