£500 to upgrade in car entertainment.HELP REQUIRED.

hi to you all.i know i have previously posted on this topic before so apologies for this. i have a 2003 ffrr autobiography running on lpg with the non touch screen old bmw ibus sysem.i have been searching like mad on the net on how to upgrade the harman kardon logic 7 sysytem.what i would like is to do is upgrade to a dvd and freeview on the in built screen,maybe headrest monitors.i have looked at running a standalone dvd player and then running the freeview box from the.i.e .use the dvd as the main unit and slave a freeview box from that.not sure if its possible.i have set my self a budget of £500 to upgrade the enetertainment sysytem so want to get as much as i can for my money.i live in southampton hampshire.any help on product selection or if u know a good auto electrician locally who can do this would be greatly appreciated.regards in advance.

if you use an intervee you can via the head unit control , Ipod, MP3 alpine 6 dics unit and a DVD 6 disc in the boot, and get it playing with a dual output to rear headrests as well, you will need to fit a video booster to maintaining quality to the rear screen due to the cable run length.

not as effective or controlable as the touchscreen but as close as you can get so all screen watch the same output selected

You don't fancy fitting a carpc then Tony?

In my view "DVD's" are old tech, you need to get all your media digitised.

As we are quite close to each other would be happy to demo.... .

It is possible to do on a budget. You need something like this;

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-3-5-X5-Range...27c9283f8b

To get the AV input on to the screen, then you can simply fit the dvd player and piggy back the av inputs for the freeview box.

A freeview box like this works fine;

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/In-Car-Digital-F...27c194530c

My car allready had the dvd system in, but when the analogue TV switched to digital, I brought a freeview box like the one above and it works fine.

Infact some of the freeview boxes play media files on memory cards, so you could watch films this way as well.

Another option for you. Reformed

Ive piggy backed of the DVD player for my freeview, but the player in my car isnt cheap. Depends if you want multi-dvd or just single disc, but as long as you have the av input lead, keep your eye on ebay etc for something like this;

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CENTURION-TWIN-S...3a773a7fbc

You could wire up the player so it comes through only on the front screen only if you wanted, and piggy back of the AV inputs for the freeview with some AV splitter leads. (The AV lead plugs into the left hand side entertainment cabby, and then thats where you split it with av splitters).

It will get the results you want cheap, once its wired in and tucked away.

Those type players come with a remote control so you can wire the player up in the entertainment cabby at the back then run the wire for the remote sensor through to the front (easy to do). Reformed

Thanks Reformed

I just followed Reformed lead and updated my 03 tv to freeview at the very reasonable cost of £100.

The AV lead acts as piggy back for the old TV unit then just plug the freeview box into that, find a positive to power the freeview box and the high gain ariel, and you are good to go.

All works well enough when stationary, it gives me something to play with while the mrs is shopping and means the TV works when I go to sell the car.

Once again FFRR to the rescue.

Edit for the exact procedure.

Take the white plug out of the old TV unit and plug the new AV lead into that. Plug the old white TV plug into the female of the new AV lead then plug your RF leads from the new freeview box into the RF leads on the new AV lead, find a positive to power the freeview box and the additional aerial if purchased, switch the TV on and off you go. 03 4.4 V8 petrol / lpg. 1st of many hopefully. I love my Rangie
